God, it's one thing after another at the moment! haha.

My diff is leaking really badly. When I bought it, the diff case has been covered in underseal - I wonder if it was rusty or whatever but it's finally started leaking. I can't see exactly where it's coming from - doesn't look like it's right from the base of the diff - can I replace the gasket and cover pretty easily? If the main diff body/pan needs welding, I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and do that.....or can I get a bolt on diff protector and smear the inside with flange sealant for the time being?

Really got to scrape all the underseal off and see what kind of mess I'm going to have to deal with. There's massive puddle under the car - I only just fixed the leaking bloody hub seal and topped up with oil again.....Argh! I doubt I've overfilled it as it's been doing it a few days now.....

I've seen some posts on here about temporary fixes that have lasted more permanently - has any of them worked out to the present day for anyone? Here's hoping!

If its the diff pan that is leaking because it has corroded and has tiny holes in it then you have two choices, either cut it off and weld a new one on or bodge it. To bodge it you need to drain all the oil, clean it thoroughly and then use fibreglass or what ever

I saw a guide on welding on a new pan and I don't think my mates welder is up to it...I think bodge-it is the way forward. I've had another look and it could be coming from the front of the diff, not the back like I thought. Or it's coming from both sides!!

Halfshafts out
diff out
wash insude and out with petrol
strong light inside diff housing
mark outside where you can see light
if only a few use metal mastic
if lots, its a new pan ( and its a bugger to do)

new pan about £35, i think.

That's annoying - only just done the hub seals anorl! haha.

I might get a new diff gasket and seal in prepartion in case it's not coming from the pan itself. What a pain in the ass.

I'll post back when I find out how bad it all is!

From those pics it looks like the diff pinion seal needs replacing. You could do this and check that the axle breather is clear before doing anymore
