Can i change the bulbs in the lcd display on the dashboard, the right hand side is out. I have just bought a 1995 2.5 diesel & its been retro fitted with the newer headlights from a 2002 model i think but its a butcher job. The o/s dip is pointing nearly right down & im not sure if the n/s is any better. Its now got springs so no airbag suspension so how can i set these lights up properly. Even access to them is limited. The tailgate button has no power and the rear doors dont lock by the remote are any of these an easy fix. There is also quite a strong smell of diesel in the cab the guy i bought it from said diesel was spilled in the boot but im thinking ive been sold a pup.... Lastly the prop is missing from the centre of the car. He claims to have taken it off for better economy but ive noticed the coupling at the rear axle is broken. Could i just buy another one and bolt it on.

all l322 p38 conversions are butchered !

there not meant to be plus they look stupidly out of proportion

however.. beam alignment is done by a couple of Allen keys mounted on top of the headlight housings. most of the alignment would have been done automatically since they are self leveling when they were fitted to the l322. obviously yours wont have that feature on your p38.

and yes i think you can change the lamps easily enough on your display.

they take some sort of twist in lamps.

datatek will be along soon to confirm as he is the p38 lover :p

just reading your post again.... are you having a joke ?!?!?

"prop missing for better economy"

sir you have been robbed.

lets guess you haven't researched either before buying a range rover ?

Yes, there are bulbs in the back of the binnacle

If these are HIDs then without the air suspension you are looking at a possible MOT failure as they've got to be self-levelling. The argument with the P38 is that the whole car self levels, except yours doesn't.

The tailgate button has no power
Could be anything from the button itself being full of crap onward. Get the panel off, it's a simple solenoid system.

and the rear doors dont lock by the remote are any of these an easy fix.
Several possibilities but I think you've got more important issues before you worry about these.

Cracked pipe on top of the tank, leak anywhere, split leak-off pipes

If you run a P38 without a prop for any length of time you'll knacker the VCU. It sounds like you might have had a U/J failure so I'd check the VCU and have a careful look underneath for any other damage caused when it went

Welcome to P38 ownership

Stable door and horses bolting I know but never ever buy a Range Rover with faults no matter what the seller says - he just wants to sell it.... Unless you know what it costs or what is involved in repairing it.

+1 to all the above, it can be sorted but with time money and endless patience.

The most important task is to find out why the turnip previous to you removed a prop shaft....

Get your money back. There are going to be a lot more problems in there as you start digging. Unless you got the vehicle for a case of lager, you've been ripped off. Get your money and find one without problems.
