Hello Yokels.
Having real snafu with my rear door latch working not working at the moment. It can take a few goes to shut or slam shut on certain times. I had a look at the catcher (latch) and this doesn't seem to stay when I use a screwdriver to active the window. Is this a normal fault for a old 2002 td4 model being warn out? Are they easy to replace for simpleton like me.
regards john

Needs new solenoid, before closing squeeze the handle a few times until you hear the solenoid work, then close the door as normal, it is simple to fit new solenoid once you've removed door card

Hold on.

Does the rear door handle trigger return correctly? The springs in the freelander rear door handle are exposed to the elements and tend to disintegrate.

Means when you slam the door, the handle rattles and reopens the solenoid immediately so it looks like it didn't latch. Usually announced by the whole door bouncing and hitting you.

Check the door handle before you go changing the solenoid.

Well B34R. I did have a go with the handle by gripping a few times and this seem to cure the problem when closing. I can hear the solenoid activating and the latch works when I just press the door shut. I try not to slam but kept the latch oiled with me thinking this was the problem first. As I early mentioned this didn't really do the trick. But now since the advice to grip the handle few times seem to cure this. I used a screwdriver to see if the latch locks fully to activate the window also which it does. How loose does the handle meant to feel as when I grip this does feel light to the touch?
