laptop is ignoreing my faultmate

Is this a case of just reinstaling faultmate software on the laptop? it wont recognize the port. i forgot to set the port as port 1 but have done now but still wont fined it even if i tell it to search for the com port the faultmats on. i get the one's and zeros going along but it never finds it.the faultmate has power and is connected to a dedecated serial port on the laptop,

Its a panasonic toughbook with win xp, when i first instaled it to the laptop all was good but now it seems not to want to do anything. says something like all information has been sent to the laptop but if i open the faultmate program and ask it to do anything it gets as far as the one's and zeros but can not fined the hardware. might read all the info again and see if it sinks into my old brain where ive gone wrong. hehe. took me 2 days to upgrade windows 2000 to xp .

Delete it & re-install it ....its running (Or Trying to) from the Memory Cache....

I get "All settings have now been read by faultmate!" on the faultmate screen, and on the laptop i asked it to test the port and 5 mins have past and still saying "testing the vehicle server communications please wait" its odd because it worked fine the first time i instaled the whole thing.

Just done a (systems test inputs) and all i get on the lap top "please wait" and the faultmate is not responding as its not changed its screen its still wating for "user inputs"

Could it be a bad serial lead/plugs?

but at the start it says it has enough information to continue... so... hu?

Is working now again.... well its showing a server restart test as "successful restarts 12"

Think i might try doing a continuity test on the serial lead

It works fine in stand alone mode.

My one is very sensitive to the way the serial lead is plugged in. I think its down to wear in the toughbook serial port but then again the BBS serial lead is the weakest link in the system. I got a high quality serial lead with thumbscrews on the connectors and tighten them everytime. Its still not 100% but much better than before.
I'm also going to remove the drop down connector cover at the rear of the toughbook as this presses against the serial lead.

Should be Doug, and they don't like being twisted/coiled, often weakens or breaks connection, yet most peeps roll or coil wires when not used :doh:

Just going to have to wait till new lead arrives, its very hit and miss with this lead. even get runtime error. tried it on another pc and still the same.
