Landy tryed to hit a tree

hiThis happened to me as well, nearly hit a wall but managed to keep it in a straight line. Left a long skid mark on the road and my pants.:crazy_driver:Took me a few hours to get the bearings off, got the two locking nuts off but had to stick a chisel in and smash the bearing apart to get flange off because they had seized on.Good luck pal.

remember that genuine shafts tend to flex alot before actually snapping often causing damage unlike most pattern shafts that tend to break sooner IMO Jai

happned to me scared the be jasus out of me total wheel bearing collapse drove home 10 mph ripped it all out refitted new got on with it not good at 60 mph

arrrgh this sounds really scary, whats the chances of it happening in my 90?!!! eeek

Almost nil, if you check and re-grease yer wheel bearings periodically.
Check for play / roughness every 6 months / 6000 miles.
Dismantle, inspect and re-grease every 2 years / 24000 miles.

aah thanks trewy, thats better!! well the bearings are greased quite regularly, maybe get them checked soon!

there is a little bit of play in the steering but thats just in the steering wheel so I guess thats not really related, and what is JMHO?

I honestly believJamie that somthing you are doing when fitting the bearings isn't quite as it should be they should last years and shouldn't have gone so quickly Jai

Mine went through an MOT a couple of months ago without any probelm on that corner, and it might be fuked but its still packed with grease.

I still cant get the hub off though, the bearing is jamed on the stub axle solid. May try getting a drill at it next but bearings are toughend steel arnt they?

No, i got mine off with a cold chisel - unfortunately it made the stub axle slightly oval, too oval to put a new one on!

Too oval to put a new bearing on, or too oval to put at new stub axle on?!? Ive got to get a new stub axle anyway its wrecked.

yeah, stub axle too oval to put a bearing on. Had to drive round with a half inch gap between the bearing race and the shoulder of the axle (bit worried it was all going to fall apart!!!) for about 3 days before the new stub axle arrived - bit hairy that!

Right, it will recive some extra abuse tomorrow then. Im doing the parts order now, i hear theres some kind of brass ring i will nead to fit the new stub axle seal into the stub axle. Is this true? Whats it called, im ordering the parts online at the moment.

FRC 4319 Sleeve Front Axle.
It holds the Stub Axle inner seal in place (FRC 3099).
