I have been pondering the security of my Landies and have come up with the idea of Datatagging them. DATATAG UK
I already have this system on 2 of my motorbikes and it would seem like a good prevention against parts thieves. If almost every part of your Landy was marked with the microdots then it would be very difficult for them to find and remove them.
I have emailed them to find out what the best kit to use would be, or if they are going to release a car kit.

Also the old method of etching the windows with the VIN or numberplate might be worthwhile.

This wouldn't prevent the idiots who want to joyride but it's another weapon in the arsenal.

I int so sure - did yu see that prog on local tv a week or so back where the tv crew took a (push)bike to be tagged (engraved) by the police, then reported it stolen. took it in to the police station and then bought it back 3 months later from police auction.

It appears that the police do not, routinely check for tagging. :(

my point being that there is no point have stuff Data tagged, if no-one bothers to look and see if stuff is datatagged.

badly worded - but yu see my point?

True but the coppers do look for Datatagged motorcycle parts 'cos they are used to it. Sadly bicycles just aren't high priority 'cos you can buy a brand new one for £70.

The cops regularly trawl motorcycle breakers with the Datatag detectors, and they go around motorbike meetings and races with them to find stolen parts.

If all Landies used Datatags then the coppers would also be able to find those handling stolen parts more easily.

It's a good idea, and I use datatag on all my bikes, but I must say that I've never seen any cops using the tag detectors on bike meetings.. and I go to quite a few in different places, depending on the day of the week..and never seen them..
including bike rallies where sometimes you have well over 1000 bikes...

To be honest mine are only Datatag so the insurance is lower, because I really dont believe they bother checking

I saw the coppers running the scanner over all the bikes at a race meet at Thruxton a few years ago and also at the Lord Derby meet as few years ago. Maybe they don't bother now but it was done a lot by Hampshire police.
Still trying to find out what the best product would be for this.

I saw a rather intersting idea on a caravan the other week that winds douwn like a jack leg but it's a hoofing great spike that'll dig in when you drive off, may not be that great for morrisons carpark but then again it might deter the local scally if they see a dirty great pick sticking out like a third leg.

You could market it as a poor mans tracker.:D:D:D

Has anyone here done the starter solenoid switch?
or some kind of hidden switch that won't let you start the vehicle?

I have an immobiliser on mine, but the more security I put on the better..

yep, just fitted a standard LR switch above the interior light/heated rear screen panel

and wired a 12v flashing LED to the other gang so when it's switched off the LED flashes

You wouldnt know where I could find an how to (idiots guide) for that would you ? :)

no offence, but i think you need to find yourself a tame idiot to do it for you

it's really very simple

twin gang change over switch

one gang makes or breaks the fuel solenoid circuit

the other opposite gang supplies the LED via a perm live

so when the supply to the solenoid is open (so it'll crank but not start) the LED is flashing

close the solenoid circuit and it'll crank and start but the LED won't flash
