Hi guys,

Bought myself a 1987 Land Rover 90 with a 300tdi on a td5 Chassis yesterday, can't wait to get some money spent on her...

First I need Insurance, no one wants to insure me and when they do, it's at £3000

My best quote so far is with "The Green Insurance Company" at £2486.
Hardly the company I expected to be cheapest

So please any advice, or please names of company's who insure Landy's.
Is there any Landy Specalists?

Your help would be much appreciated

Thanks :)

if you're not keen on insuring it in your parents name (generally speaking to do this the vehicle would need to be registered to them - with only a few exceptions) then insure it in your name with a parent or low risk driver as a named driver as some insurance companies will give a reduction based on the assumption that if someone else is driving the vehicle then you're not...! the other thing you could try is to limit your mileage - say for example to 3000 miles a year. if you actually drive 6000 miles in the year then you must tell your insurance company when you get to 3000, but at least you'll have had the benifit of a reduced premium for half the year. some insurance companies also give discounts for club membership and have a look into the ROSPA driving tests which also sometimes attract a reduction in premium. hope this helps.

Hi,

I'm 20 and have just bought a 1996 Defender 90 300Tdi,
registered it in my Dads name, with him as main driver as we will both be using it as much as one another. and me as a named driver.

Cost me £250 form Adrian Flux.

With all MODS declared. Tyres, Snorkel, Light bar etc.

I have insured my 17 year old son (in his name) for a Defender 90 200tdi for £1,300 fully comp with NFU. They would only take him on if my car is insured with them. They have insured it on a van policy as the defender has no seats in the back. Hope this helps

Good price but be wary of Flux, I know plenty of people who have had problems when it came to claiming using them.

That's ****ing brilliant compared to the prices I've been quoted, if you don't mind, how much is it a year for your inurance with them? As it might take a fair bit of persuasion for my dad to switch insurance policies.

Thanks for the help though guys
Todd.

have you tried the co-op insurance as when i was a high risk driver they were the cheapest, and dont bother with price compare web sites, you will have to do it the old way, pen and paper with the yellow pages
