Hi all, I am turning 18 in a fortnight and looking to buy a Discovery 300tdi in the near future, after driving round in an embarrassing Peugeot 107 for the last 7 months. My old man has had many Discos in the past (he was a member of this page and we've been on many trips with the guys off here).

What companies do young drivers find are cheap to insure with? I'll be looking at kitting the disco out so need a modification friendly company. I know this is a big ask but I'm sure there is a few companies out there. I've been getting quotes ranging from £1300-£1800 but none will insure me with modifications.

Any help is appreciated!!!

sorry can’t help I have not had to worry about being 18 for many years:oops:.
All I can say is shop around. Also save your hard earned to maintain a basic car before spending on mods, you don’t need all the kit to enjoy it:)

Unfortunately, you’re at the age where you will pay for not having driving experience behind you. You might be better sticking with the small, embarrassing but economical transport for a year or two just to get the insurance down to a more affordable level.

If you’re determined to drive a disco, shop around. A lot on here use Adrian Flux but there are other Landy insurance specialists in the likes of LRO. If you haven’t done so, try googling insurance companies for new drivers, etc and see what they’ll charge. You might be able to keep the premiums down with a black box, limited mileage policy, increased excess, no passengers or driving at night, etc. Modifications will hike up the premiums too so I’d steer clear of doing anything to the disco initially. If you do have any modifications, disclose these or you’ll find your insurance void if you have an accident.

Hi there and welcome! When I was 18 i got my first landy insurance with NFU
Hold off on any mods for a while, get used to driving a standard machine on and off road and you'll have a better idea how it Will impact
 
Fewer insurance companies will insure with mods so it will limit the options yer have. Fewer options probably means higher prices.
 
Welcome...well sorted maintained Landys don't need modifications from expensive suppliers unless your using them in extreme conditions...stay standard stay simple and stay stum to an insurance company about mods you want to do when asking for a quote once insured you can then ask about mods after youv'e proven yourself...
