As you know, the price of fuel has reached a record high. Maybe it would be a good idea if we could organise a protest? Perhaps the site could team up with a few other Landy sites and perhaps we could have a Landy party down the M5 or something? Ofc our excuse for going slow could be to make sure that the trattor boys can keep up with us. :D

Looks like some bikers plan on having some fun soon too: BBC News - Bikers protest in Manchester over fuel prices

Is this a crazy idea? Or something we could pull off?

Rich

P.S
We may need a couple of car trailers for the hippos. (just in case!) Mine hasn't been feeling too well lately! :(

Im rather hoping that the government put it up to £3 a ltr.
Just imagine how quiet the road's would be, i wont be late getting to my meeting's anymore :D

This sort of thing may well be pointless but in France these protests seem to have good results. Perhaps it is because we have been so apathetic over the years the government just takes it as read that we can be **** on. The only protest I can remember working was way back in the dark days of Maggie's rule when the Poll Tax got abolished.

The oil companies have been operating a price monopoly for decades, you're screwed and they know it. You have to fill up at some point. Not very often these days you can just take the family for a drive in the country as my folks did.

Just wait until you hear the prices justified because they have to clean up the gulf of mexico. Theres always something to lay the blame on. And they still keep making billions every quarter.

Any protest by a group of ''gas guzzling eco destroyers'' as the red tops like to portray land rover owners, is only going to give the tree huggers more ammunition against us.

Look at other ways to save fuel, use svo or wvo..and when you do fill up, don't buy choccy or anything else!!

Total waste of time...... If everyone in the country stoped buying fuel for a couple of weeks that might make a difference

it's a good idea, but as said above, we don't quite have the same attitude to civil unrest as some other countries.

if we started a protest, the police would get involved, at which point we then have to decide to go for it big time, cause a riot, get arrested and charged cos you sure as hell won't escape, then have it hanging over you for the rest of your life.

or then meekly disperse having hopefully made our point. can't see anyone in the uk blocking the roads and setting trucks on fire like the french.

drive slow protests were a good idea, but only serve to **** the people off trying to get around the country. politicians didn't give a toss because it didn't affect them. then with a bit of spin, it was made out that the truckers doing it were the baddies of the piece.

the only thing that worked quite well was when the refineries were blockaded and there was a fuel shortage. there's probably now a hidden piece of legislation that has been slipped in to stop us from doing that too.

NO! Bad info you got there! My job and those of thousands of others involved within the transport industry is at risk - we have shaved costs and overheads, our customers are unable to pay any more for the job and margins are tighter than ever. Some of us are only just breaking even now, even the big boys are feeling the pinch! If fuel hits £1.30/litre I join the dole queue. Blair brought in new laws after the last protest, hauliers who protested were hounded by the DOT/VOSA, some lost their livelihoods because they dared to protest, The only way to do something is for each and every one of us to take a weeks holiday and bring the country to a halt - there is no law which dictates when you should take a holiday, only company policy....;)

i agree, but people are 2 selfish to do it,its not only your industry suffering ,the building trade is hit with it too,as prices are tight at mo,yet wit fuel going up it means making a loss, remember all the supermarkets and shops put their prices up to compensate for the fuel hike, but the goverment rub their hands at this, remember they get more back in v.a.t,due to price increases:doh:

I farm as well - it costs alot more to plough an acre nowadays  As for an alternative, well, I have been looking very closely at emigrating which will be decided on the outcome of the election tomorrow.

I think we've just missed a massive trick... The last month or so politicans have been travelling around the whole country be road - what time would be better than having 'go-slow' protests on all the routes the politicans were driving? (well, being driven)
