Im sure this has been discussed in much detail in the past... but why is the Landrovers wanted section locked out for posting by new forum members?

I am looking at getting my first landy, I have done lots of research and know what I want, I just need to find it now!

I wanted to put up a wanted ad, but obviously I can't. It doesn't seem that welcoming really. I can understand why sales is locked out for new members - but for people trying to get in to the scene its a bit of a pain! I guess it just means I have to make a few useless posts 1st?

So you've read the rules then determined, and posted, that you "have to make a few useless posts 1st?".

In my opinion this is absolutely wrong and not even close to the spirit of Landyzone, especially as it's the first rule you're parodying "You must have a minimum of 50 constructive forum posts to post here." Constructive is just that.

Based on your post I'd say go away* .... then having read the other two posts you've posted I'd say when you do go away*, go further away* and when you get there, go away* again. We are a community of like-minded people, you want to join us it's up to YOU to fit in, not for us to bend the rules for anyone to pop along and spit the dummy 'cos they don't like it, whatever your reasons.

Personally, I'd ban you now and block your IP too ...

*I was going to swear here, and face to face I would have .. ;)

I can sell you one, you are not far from me pm me <cackle>

And that is the warm welcome from our GLASS representative :)

Fair enough... I know how forums work. Been there done that, moderated official (non landy) forums etc, technical advisor to a ford club etc, help run a vehicle show and run tech support there... (unfortunately duratorq/puma engines arn't really in my knowledge base)

I didn't see "constructive" but without having a landy yet, and without knowing a great deal about them (yet) other than what I want to get it will be a challenge to make truely useful or constructive posts... so of course getting to 50 would be a challenge! Im sure it wouldn't be hard with a bit more tech knowledge on the landy or asking questions about what you have. So yes, any posts I make at the moment probably will be useless to everybody else...

Heh, he's saying he's gonna break the rules, how warm do you want me to be?

Constructive could be any basic, reasonable questions you have, the way you posted suggested you were gonna post dribble ...

To be fair, half of the posts here are pointless and have as much to do with landrovers as Donald Trump as to do with common sense.

Absolutely .. but how many are from newbies with their first posts suggesting that's what they're gonna do to post in the wanted forums? They only need to be useful for a while, look at our merkin friend .. ;)

Yea, I know, he should have started by saying "I wanna buy a 110' what should I look out for" those sort of posts run and run cos everyone wants to chip in. 50 posts in no time.

Rust (everywhere), ali corrosion anywhere thats not steel, knackered bushes and drivechain and panels that don't fit are all factory fit arn't they?

Tbh I had an S3 lined up (as a swap for a moggy minor) until the guy lost his job yesterday... but its not quite what I wanted

Have a good think about what you want the vehicle for before buying. My lwb series 3 station wagon is a good versatile tool but it ain't great for moving in tight spaces so serious off-roading would be a pain.

A muddy open an fairly flar field is as much off roading as its likely to see. Its towing ability I want - an a series isn't ideal for that either... due to 2000kg before coupled brakes req'd - but could have sorted that

In fairness, the "50 posts" rule is aimed more at people who just join the forum to try to sell bits of crap and then sod off again.
The problem of those members who might be wanting an item or even a complete vehicle was recognised by the management, consequently there is a "restriction free" wanted section on the Anything Goes board. I say restriction free, but that's not entirely true, you post an advert for the item of your dreams and wait for a reply. You don't use it for sounding off about the 50 posts rule or any other sort of banter.

Basically you can be a member of the forum by signing up. You can be a part of the forum by posting 50 posts or more. It's as simple as that. You want buying and selling try eBay. You want a community about stuff and occasionally landeovers here is the place.
Asking what GLASS is a simple way of demonstrating how you would get 50 posts easily.
