Land Rover Navigation system-Any good?

Just bought an HSE on the 06-plate, the built in sat nav is PANTS! unless you know other wise.
I've tried several times to program a route to a near bye destination, using street name and post code, but the dam things seems incapable of working out any route that makes sense.
Is it a duff unit or are they normally this bad, or do I need to reset it in some way?

If its getting the road names wrong or telling you that you're off road then it might need calibrating but I can't see how unless the vehicle has changed tyre size. Or perhaps the battery has been disconnected although I'm not sure that this may cause it.

Also note that after you have selected your destination road you can choose fastest or shortest route which usually differ by some degree. Generally shortest is best for local journeys as fastest will detour you on to main roads which might be some way off the best route.

If it sounds like it needs calibration and yours is a 4765 same as mine I'll dig out the instructions on how to do that.

Found out how to do a software reset per user manual, not very clear it has to be said, and not very effective as it dosen't seam to have made any difference.

I think its quite good and the sound from that system is so much better than the standard! The only probelm I have is with the front display every now and then the puttons will stop working cos of a lose connection or something!? had anyone else had this problem?

I've had mine lose bits of display, opening and closing the CD door sorts it.

My problem is that the present map system is 2003 and to update to 2008 is £176.19! More than enough to buy a good TomTom with up to date maps!!

Mine is even older and it doesn't know the road I live in but that is no great shakes I don't need it for that hehe. I'm fairly sure you can use different discs and not the specific Land Rover ones, you tend to get a few years old on there for a lot less money than that. Not sure which ones are suitable which is a bit of a problem.

I've got the 2006 version... you can get copys although mine aint

No it's definitely PANTS or BUST, tried resets to no avail. it don't ave a clue where in the hell it is and it co-ordinates read as zero no matter where I might be. Looks like I off to a dealer.

If it doesn't appear to be getting a GPS signal the first thing to check would be the plug on the back assuming you have the appropriate removal tools.

Hit first and last button when you first power the unit up and you should get test mode. It'll read GPS ANTENNA ERROR if the wire has fallen out (or indeed the GPS unit has failed but simple solutions first )

Spot on, that's the error code I was getting.
Had it back to a dealer and they sorted it, for the time being
