I'm needing a replacement front axle for my Defender 110 (1986). I've found that the ratio of 3.54:1 is common to Discos and Range Rovers too. I have a feeling that up to 1998 the axles for all these vehicles interchangeable - is this the case? Are the mountings the same etc?

they all fit the same up to 2001 just use your sterring bars off yours and fit to the new axle altho td5 are a little bit wider on the front but disco axle will fit some earlier ones are 10 spline and later 24 spline if your up grading you want 24 spline

rrc and disco have wider radius arms than defender until introduction of 300 tdi were defender used wider radius arms too ,so if you want to fit disco axle to pre 300 defender you need to change radius arms as well or use large washers to make up the difference

Thank you. The replacement axle I got was from a later vehicle and luckily came with the radius arms which, as you say, are wider. 45mm instead of 38mm I think.
