Hi,
Not 100% If this is the right place to post this so apologies if not.
I’ve got a TD (G Reg) which has a disco 200 tdi swap. I’m having some issues starting.

It’s struggled starting first time when cold for a little bit now (just put it down to being an old land rover) but when It’s warm or been running for a bit if I turned it off to go to the shop or something I’d come back and would start first time. Then the other day I tried starting it and it just won’t start. It cranks and for a bit like before but it just won’t start. Im thinking it could be the glow plugs that want changing due to it starting first time when warm. It did misfire the otherday a little then it seemed to clear also a little Smokey on start up too. Anyone else has similar issues or any other input would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for your response. I have read online that they start okay without plugs. Do you know where I’d start with that one haha? My first Landy

Short rubber pipes between the injectors, check them for cracks and splits, they dont last very long. A quick look at the pipes to and from the fuel filter/lift pump/injector pump would also be a good idea.

From what you've said, no. These engines usually start instantly, if its cranking for even a couple of seconds then its got an issue

Welcome
+1 on spill pipes. These may look dry but replace them
As you say if it’s ran it starts straight back up.this is because the fuel has not drained back from the injectors & allowed air in.

Cheers lads Appreciate the helps I got back today and had a look at the fuel spill lines. Couldn’t see any holes or notice any evident signs leaking. Im looking at this and it looks like a bit of a bodge at the T junction where the lines meet?

Do you have a boost gauge for the turbo?

When you remove that cotton weave you will find cracks. Replace them pipes, they should just pull off
Lifesaver mate, checked the injector pipes and ones soaked on diesel so I imagine that’s where the air has got in. Going to collect the nbill bill one later. Are they self bleeding do you know?

An inch or so of heatshrink on the ends helps prolong the life of the tube

For replacing spill pipes yes, thats what it has been doing to you every day. You wouldn't want to try and fill a fuel filter by cranking it tho
