TD5 Defender starting issues

Hello everyone, first time posting.
2006 defender td5. Intermittent starting issues. Have replaced starter relay. No different. Today joined terminal 30 to 87 on relay base. Starter momentarily operated but then nothing. Testing shows terminal 30 still live, but doesn't operate starter when joined to 87. Does the wire on 87 go direct to starter solenoid? Any thoughts?

I don't have a TD5 but it does sound like you are doing the right thing, there maybe something else that needs looking at.
Earths are often a cause of issue.
Post in the Def' forum. - with a picture or two - and you will get the answers you need.
