Yeah I have it on my L322 which is my daily, the P38 lives a cosetted life. I'm giving it a good once over anything it needs it's getting as being laid up. The rear tyres are getting near the limit so I'm thinking new boots as well.

I'm thinking these, comparison wouldn't be fair they are just so different the L322 is bigger, comfier etc . And I do prefer the L322 which is another V8.

Didnt read the link but, have to agree love the p38 but the L322 is more:D.
But will still keep the P38 cos it’s still better than a xxxxx:):):):).
I can drive either and they both make me smile:)

Update time after finding both the cats blocked the new ones arrived this week and I had some time to swop them out. In true landrover fashion x5 of the exhaust to manifold studs snapped..........

Time to pull the manifolds and drill out the snapped studs while there off the car re wrap with new exhaust wrap as the old stuff was starting to degrade.

Decided on doing the o/s first as that hard to reach rear lower bolts is a challenge.....well its off will remove the other side tomorrow and await the new studs and exhaust wrap.

I have 2 1999 p38 diesels that have been laid up for 2 1/3 yrs because of covid and wont be back to the uk for at least 6 months.
Both will pass the MOT and should start on the button so ithink i must cosider selling them when i get back there as i am in Australia there is also a shed load of spares with them like 2 air pumps spare turbo spare head new brake pipes spare auto gerbox and also 2 sets of 18 inc wheels spare in tank pump ball joints and cv joints i used both these car s for travelling so they have been in russia and europe so i made them reliable as i have been locked down here in Australia i dont think i will have any use for them when i get back as im getting to old for the hassle with old cars and will probably buy a new defender or a good low milage disco 4 so i will sell both as a package or sell seperatly and spares seperatly as well

You might find the Disco 4 even less reliable. Think that's the one my mate had where the crank bearings fused to crank.

My friends Defender is less reliable than my P38 plus it's noisy draughty and it leaks:rolleyes:

How much are you asking for it Dave?
Can you post a link to it please?
Cheers,
Mike.
Hi Mike
Iv not advertised it any where else yet I'm honestly open to a sensible offer, as I said it's not about the money just want it to go to a good home.
Am happy to answer any questions if you have a look at all my previous post it will give you an idea of what iv done in my ownership.
Off the top of my head
Head gaskets with refurbished heads, still have the old ones
New rockers
Brake discs all round
Shocks all round
New heated wind screen
No hevac warning
Rear air bags
New suspension pump
All front end steering components
Complete strip down and overhaul of the eas
New Water pump etc etc
I stripped the fuse box down repaired some bad connections and resolderd every joint to ensure no future issues
I installed an android head unit due to the dsp amp failing, think I was the 1st todo it on here.
I fixed the heated seats and installed upgrade stats in the seats, they actually get warm unlike the originals.
Obviously New cats this week And rewrapped the manifolds, I wrapped them originally after doing the heads.
Iv spared no expense I even recovered the headliner a few years back.

I'm sure there are many more things, everything works I even dug out a brand new key I bought from the main stealers , not cheap. I'm going to refurb the other 2 , iv also got x2 original emergency keys.
The only negative is a slight whine from the rear diff, I swopped out the original not long after I bought it, it's a 4 pin like the original diff but alas this has developed a whine. I would if keeping swop it out for a cheaper 2 pin diff or have the current one overhauled at a local specialist.
The rear tyres are legal but would need sorting soon. The body work is almost unmarked I'm going to give it a full machine polish this week.

When I read that all back I realise just how much iv put into this car.
Reg is
W486 NLA so you can do an mot check for milage.

Will post up some more photos after a polish please be aware I'm only selling due to impending ULEZ extension out to where I live if you are inside the M25 if they extend it next year it falls foul to Kharns Tax. Iv lost my storage where its been all this time so it has Togo.
Please pm me for more info and come and have a look see, I'm in se London, Kent really but as a London borough getting royally fecked
