As its so poorly built it has to go never towed anthing all its life and the gearbox is knackerd what a load of crap the P38 i had before was just the same. So back to an L200 much better car

yep there pretty **** but i prefer the hilux to the l200.Much more refined and the l200 gives too much feedback through the steering. And a pick up will never have the class of a rr, its a van after all. You'll look like "pete the chippy" driving one(if they dont think ya a pikey).

What do you expect from a "Value engineered" product from BMW ? They are OK for 3 years apart from the trim falling apart - after that they are a rusty money pit.

124k you need to expect issues, **** me people think cars will regularly do 300k wtf are they on

:hysterically_laughi tell that to the bloke who owns this 56 plate one in my garage thats only covered half that milage and needs an engine.
Well I've just done rear balljoints,(Again.) and repaired the steering column on a TD6 L322 thats also had 3 engines and 2 gearboxes to get to 120,000m.
Quality.

My last Volvo 960 estate had 285K miles on it when I sold it. Apart from dash lamps, exhaust, a fuel pump relay and rad hoses plus normal consumables it was original. The 740 that preceeded it had just short of 200K on it when I sold again no problems. A life of 10 years/100k miles should be as nothing for a car like the P38.

Trouble is Hatty - even die hard LR fans are getting fed up with it.That particular car has broken far too many times, the owner who paid £54,000 for it in 2004 has had enough and is going to a different make.
I was supposed to have a D3 in today - not turned up. :( That is a 2005 car,30,000m never towed/off roaded etc.Was a school run car in a leafy suburb - yet it has had ALL its suspension bushes replaced.
Makes me think it was well worth welding a boot floor into my 300 Disco with a mere 174,000m all original etc - and its reliable.

Same experience here with a Volve 740 estate - 245,000 miles when I sold it. Original engine and box. In fact, most of the damn car was original apart from the usual consumables. A later C70 though wasn't anywhere near being as well built. Everything down to a price now and it shows.

A mate dropped off an 06 TD5 110 last week with a suspected noisy rear wheel bearing,60,000m owned from new.It actually needs a new rear diff.Third one I have done in 6 months on Defenders less than 5yrs old.
he drove away in another of his fleet,a 57 plate VW Transporter, again owned from new,57,000m - properly cared for and driven. When he reversed around to exit the yard the LH outer CV joint made a very loud clicking - clearly on its way out.
What happened to VW / German quality ? All the local garages are full of stories of low mileage failures.....
Seems to me the bean counters are cutting back on component quality and trading on brand loyalty.
The Ag boys are telling me the same story with tractors playing up all over the place and the manufacturers letting the farmers do the development work going round the fields.
****es me off,esp when you know that they know how to make it work well - and how to make it last.Rusty bodywork should be a thing of the past, engines we know can do 250-300,000m along with gearboxes and final drives. Not very green is it ?
