l322 Petrol or Diesel

Thinking of changing from my p38 to a L322.

So diesel or lpg/petrol.?

Regarding the gearbox, is there a safe mileage ie better getting something with 100 K plus .??

Or Should i just keep the P38.?
 
your going to get mixed reviews mate.

i would say diesel as i dont like petrol engines lol

but the diesels go through gearboxes more than the petrols.

they go around 90k miles, so you may be better off getting a high miler and make sure its recently had a new gearbox fitted :)

i bought a L322 HSE TD6 2 years ago, with 136K on the clock, now on 149K and still going along nicely.

make sure you service the gearboxes every year and they seem pretty good
 
Diesel eat boxes beyond 90K miles

Petrol does similar but not so catastrophically!!

Petrol on LPG is similar price to run as the Diesel but with more ooomphh

TD6 engine is fairly bullet proof

BMW 4.4 is robust but can suffer from VANOS wear....

Both will empty your wallet regularly with repairs unless you can DIY....!!!
 
G-boxes are a ticking time bomb on the l322 amongst other issues that they have. Saint v8 has an LPG V8 which seems to do well on comparable mpg. FYI I get between 23 and 32 mpg out of my td6.
It will be a significantly more expensive proposition than your p38! But in my opinion it is worth it!

32MPG ???

driving well i only have got 21 :eek:
 
I,ve been looking at 120k plus assuming its probably had a gearbox or its a good 1.
I just fancy a change , and can't find anything else other than a rangey i fancy around the £9-10K
 
Driving back from Solihull to Cornwall three weeks ago I got 32mpg with cruise on at 65-70. I couldn't believe it, then checked brim to brim and it was spot on give or take .5mpg!
 
Got 27 mpg coming back from Bristol airport to St Ives on Sunday- but it is hilly and that was with cruise on at 75. Maybe the bio makes it more fuel efficient- or that lovely west country air?! :D

Petrols don't eat the box as much as the diesels.....

Main fault on the ZF box is the bearing between B and C clutches/drums fails causing movement of the packs which wears out the O ring inbetween A & B causing a hydraulic pressure reduction, making the A Clutch slip...this results in the Box failsafeing to 5th with a bang (as it cant get 4th - A clutch is in use for 4th) and a fault pcode logged....

The reapir seems simple if you can drop the box...and catch it before the Clutch plates burn out and the TQ LUC friction material wears out trying to limit the A clutch slippage....

The Diesels just wear out the Valve Block causing a reduced hydraulic pressure to the TQ which gives out and trashes the whole box....!!

mine is chipped with an extra 40 horses supposedly :D

that might not help my consumption....(and gearbox :eek:)

£9K a bit steep then. Must look a bit harder.

Will still go for a look, i will atleast have something to compare against.

whats the going rate for a diesel.?
