hi,just bought an 02-02 range rover hse 3.0l diesel. the air suspension warning is on.comes up max speed 35mph.
when you set away it jerks and judders through the steering wheel as if the front wheels are loose(which there arent)when you get the speed upto 70-80 it goes off.
the front n/s brake seems to be sticking on.would this cause the juddering?
also the heater blower wont work.the lights come on the switch/knob but nothing happens.
are these common/expensive faults.
can anyone help:doh::doh::doh:

Would I be correct in saying that the suspension isn't dropping and is stuck at the max ride height? If this is the case have a look for a black box in the boot well with the spare wheel. Undo the 4 bolts and remove the cover. You will see a brass cone with a hex end on it. This is the pressure release valve. Remove this and the suspension will drop to the correct level. You are fine to drive without it fitted. The cost of a new one from the main dealers is £2.60. The new version has a hole in it to release dust and moisture which cause the originals to block up.

It sounds like it could be that the disc is warped due to overheating if the brake is sticking on. It could also be somthing as simple as unbalanced wheels. If the brake is sticking on DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE. You will boil the brake fluid and have no brakes. Thats assuming it doesn't catch fire first.

The more expensive fault that I think it will turn out to be is either diff knackered or gearbox. It will gradually get tighter and tighter until it locks up and won't move any further. I think it's £2000 for the front diff and £4000 for gearbox. I haven't enquired about a price for a while so they may be cheaper now.

sounds like the motor has gone. You could be lucky and have a fuse blown or wiring fault.

Why did you hand over your money with a list of faults that long? Where did you get the vehicle from? Take it straight back and get the faults sorted out.

The heater blower problem is caused by a faulty output stage voltage amplifier (also known as the final stage resistor or sometimes the front regulator assembly – goodness knows why it has so many names). Land Rover changed the design as this faulty component can also cause battery drain problems. The new part number is JGO000021 and it costs about £40.

thanks guys,i may have posted this in th ewrong section.if i have then please accept my profuse appologies.
i bought it from an auction.although it all looks bad.it was quite cheap.judging from the response i have had it might not be that bad.(optomistic i know)but you have shed some light on the problem and i have just put the noose back in the cupboard.hopefully for good.:blabla:

Ozzy,

the brake issue could well be a sticking caliper seeing as how most of the parts on the L322 BMW dervied. My last two BM's (an M3 E46 and a 320d previous to that) both had sticking front calipers due to being stood on dealer forecourts before I bought em. So if your car has been stood for a while it could well be that...

I got my car from a stolen recovered auction (don't know why it was there - no damage) and it had been stood for a while and mine had a few issues with the air suspension warnings which cleared over a period of a few hours. Try pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery to clear the fault and see if that helps.

Also i had an issue with vibrating wheels because of worn front suspenion bushes.

Heater issue most likely as bemble says, that part can also cause flat batteries too and your's is likely to be shagged by now (mine's a 2002 and the heater voltage amplifier went on mine too - only £30 from a main dealer).

Not heard of too many problems with the airbag suspension on L322's, usually recitifies itself as soon as it appears.

Also if the wheel wobble is diff related get onto Range Rover main dealers to check your car has had the free diff recall work (needed on 2002 to 2004 models)

Hope some of this helps
