Hi all,
Just sold my D2 and got a RR Sport HSE 2005 instead. Not actually driven it as I'm stuck in Saudi Arabia (been stuck here since Dec 19) but my wife says its nice. Anyway I'm thinking about changing the standard radio for an aftermarket touch screen/bluetooth audio streaming etc etc unit whilst retaining the standard sat nav. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Are there any alternatives on the net?
Theodern the stereo is the more difficult it is to replace them as some of them are wired right into a whole host of things jn the car. Good luck with your search ;)

It would be helpful to know what audio system you have already, as you might be able to install a higher spec factory system, which does what you need.

However if you have the factory nav, then you've likely got the high line audio unit already fitted. If so, then you can install BT phone and DAB, if those are missing.

It's not easy to replace the HU with something that wasn't factory available, as there's a huge amount of integration in these vehicles, so removing one item will upset lots of other things. For example the nav won't work, or PDC system, or the amplifier system.
It's not something that is easy or cheap to do.

.

Plus one on all of that. I've just looked into it with my L322. Not cheap, or easy on the L322. Although that said, the guys I use did say they frequently change head units on Discos, without the issues that the L322 brought up.
So if this is the DiD Sport, changing it might be ok. Just speak to someone who has done it to a Disco

It depends on what standard HU is fitted. Discovery's are often lower spec. As such, if the vehicle is a low spec, and doesn't have much in the way of gadgets like PCD and nav, then it's relatively easy to replace the HU, and all that doesn't work is the clock.

However if the vehicle is a higher spec with PDC and nav, then it uses the MOST data bus, so it's not really practical to start messing with changing HUs, as so much stops working.

As I said, I know allllll about it, depending on which one it is :(
I was going to have to have new cables, for the dsp amp, cable for the aerial, by pass for the satnav, and other nonsense. If I didn't cable this and cable that I would have lost several speakers, and some other bits (memory is crap at the moment) If I recall correctly the cables alone were £200 -£250. Then the cost of a new unit. However, the new unit , whilst being all singing and dancing would also need adaptations to fit. I would also have lost my multi-CD player, and my beloved cassette player :D
I have no idea of the ins and outs of the DiD , but thought the MOST was in the 2nd version, post 2007? Which is why I suggested it may be the same as the Disco.
It's a shame @gstuart is on a break, as he has done just about everything to his Disco. Giving him a ground up knowledge of not only the Disco, but most of that age of DiD.
Whatever it is, I hope the OP gets what he's after.
