Hello Lads and ladys,
A while back someone gave me some advice on how to make my king cab from a van roof and a truck cab including measurements etc...

now for the life of me i cant remember who or where it was and an hour of searching i cant find the post...

sooo back to square one... who can tell me a decent way to do it?

150mm comes to mind for some reason... haha

they look good if done with a van back rather than a truck cab

Increased cab space for dry storage whilst keeping part of the pickup bed for mucky stuff

I've spaced mine so I can still get an engine in the back should I want to, at some point I may modify the rear to a hi-cap style i.e. no seat boxes

no arguements on looks or purpose...
im an arthritic fat bastard... after driving a P38a and then a Disco2 as daily drivers ive come to appreciate room... hence king cab and flat floor mods are on the way. :D

i like the truck cab for the look and visibility... im just after advice on splicing the two roof panels together tbh

though Dr Evil yours does look the Dogs!

Thats not my cab but thats the design I'm following :) Mine doesn't reach so far into the back of the bed, will get a pic up when I find the cable

Cut the rear corner panel off/pop the rivets then cut the back part off and rivet the corner back on

bout 2/3rds down

aye they look smart...
the truck cab based ones are what im going for tbh
the main thing i cant remember is the tool required to shape the leading edge of the truck cab roof to overlap the front section of van roof with the rear truck cab section
hard to explain but i hope you know what i mean haha

the sides of the green one are how i would do it but the roof is rough as hell...
need to think of the technical term for making a flat piece of metal dip down to a lower level... then i can overlap seal and rivet the two roofs lol

well you'd just put it in a roller and roll to shape wouldn't you ?

and yeah one of the reasons why I wasn't going to go with the truck cab roof, van back is easier and looks better, simply split the roof at the spot welds, cut back to the length wanted then rivet together with some tiger seal, plus with a cat flap rear they are just as good or you can fit a sliding window if wanted

if i can find someone who does ali welding it could be an even neater job...
drop the recess on the front edge of the truck cab rear and weld in the gap then grind smooth... its sounding more like a neater job already! lol

if its being tig welded it shouldn't need much finishing work, suppose you could mig weld the ali if you wanted though, local metal fabricator should be able to do it no problem

my local fabricator that does all of my work is more agricultral ;)
my gearbox and engine mounts are made of 5-8mm plate haha

mig welding ali? isnt that some sort of dark art? haha

and well my TIG work is just horrendous lol
