key not turning engine off today

as the above says, not had this problem before, but turned the key back to the on position drove home, (about a mile) and all was ok again, not sure whats going on, any advice would be great.

is this an ignition switch problem or something else ?

Being a diesel if you loose battery power and the engine has a mechanical pump it won't stop until you stall or the fuel runs out. My money is on the fuel solenoid sticking open, or the the ignition switch shorting in the closed postion.

Let us know how you get on.
 
I had exactly this and it turned out to be a dodgey bulb in the rear cluster causing an earth problem... if I had the lights on I could take the key out of the ignition and the engine would only stop when I turned the lights off.. new bulb sorted it

funny you should mention that because one of the front fogs have stopped working, and it gives me some real bad interference on my CB, and 2 meter radio in the car, when the switch is switched on...will check out the bulb, but i have a feeling it's a dodgy earth on one of the fogs, taking into account the RF interference i get on the radios.

it hasn't happened since, and have started putting injector cleaner in when i put in fuel in again, thought it might have been coke doing it, will clean ignition switch out with contact cleaner, and check some earths, and see how much a replacement solenoid is.

Do you have any other symptoms eg lights/indicators not working correctly?
