Hi guys, Happy new year to you all.

Strange one on my 300tdi disco this morning.

Everything was right as rain yesterday, came to open the car with the 2 button fob this morning and nothing happened! got as close as I could to the receiver but stil nothing.
Ended up coming to work on my bike.

Brought fob with me, opened it up and checked the battery which is a 3 Volt CR2032.

Reading on the meter is 2.9 volts which I presume will be ok?

I have given it a clean with a circuit board cleaner at work.

Any other ideas?

You would think 2.9 volts would be ok I've never bothered to check the output from a new battery. But I would think it would read just over 3 volts.

Try warming the battery in your hand ( without shorting it ) and re-check the voltage.
Try a new battery.

Are you sure the car battery is ok?

Like I say ~I have cleaned the little circuit board and warmed it up at work. Will have to check it when I get in later.
Havnt had any issues with the car battery whatsover so would think its ok, the red immobiliser LED was flashing on the dash as normal so would of thought there is power there.

Ok I'd agree car battery can be ruled out.

Most likely then I think it'll be a simple resynch job.

Got something todo with the fob and the immobilizer getting out of synch.
I'm sure theres a thread on here of how to do it.

Easy to synch the two button D1 fob.. just press the lock button at least 4 times, also required if the fobs battery is removed/replaced.

So you didn't unlock your disco with the key then, although u would have needed a functioning fob to silance the alarm.

I was just going to post exactly the same thing I think the handbook says 3 times to re-synchronize the fob with the car, mine does it all the time, sometimes I have to walk around to the passenger side for it to work, but it does it at least twice a week. If you press the fob a number of times away from the car it can mess up the synchronization, hence the 3 presses to reset it.

Yes but if you have a look at the threads and do a bit of research you will find the reason why you have to keep doing this and how to cure it ;) :D

The range of my fob was just a distance of say, to the back of the disco plus a foot or two, but since I have fitted a new vehicle battery the range had increased so now from back of the disco plus 10 feet or around 20 feet from the front, just like it was when I got my disco. :)

The cure for an iffy fob is to send it to Remote Key for them to referb the fob, as they can loose their tune and requires crystal requires replacing.

Exactly same problem - had the Disco 2 years from new no problems until today and both key fobs dead and no amount of 3 or 4 presses of the buttons as close to the sensor as poss has made any difference. The handbook is in the car of course so can't remeber how you get the batteries out but seems unlikely that both batteries would die at the same time so assume it is a synch problem. Will Land Rover Assistance be able to fix it? Any thoughts welcome. Thanks

Check for water in your central locking control box, mine started doing this until eventually it packed up all together, only gave me problems after prolonged rainfall until corossion set in, make sure wires go into box from underneath to prevent water running down loom into box.

Thanks my problem was that the car battery was US as it had a broken cell, so OK with replacement - but the drivers door will not lock with fob and I realise hasn't for some time. I have to do that internally from passenger side and then lock the rest of doors with fob I will get it looked at under warranty, but wondered if it was another - of what I see from the threads are common- key fob problems!
