Hey Guys,

Does anybody know where i can get a new key barrel for the drivers door on my 94' Disco ?

Tried Landrover themselves but got told the vehicle is to old :eek: for them to sell !

Any suggestions more than welcome :)

Thanks.

My guess is LR said that the vehicle is too old for them to make (have made for them) a barrel that will suit your key.

The options that I see:
- buy a complete set, including ignition and keys
- get a SH set as above from a breaker's yard or ebay (there is one set available today)
- EDIT: It seems you can't do that, they're different part# anyway: {switch the driver's door barrel with the passenger's - I'm not 100% sure that they are the same and not mirrored - someone has to confirm this.}
- get a SH barrel (with at least 1 key) and use it on driver's door - you will have to carry 2 keys
- get a SH barrel with no key (two would be better) and have a locksmith shop replace the bits in it recovered from your barrel so that it will match your key - this depends on the state your actual barrel is and one locksmith's willing to do such a job (or maybe DIY).
- forget about the whole thing :) - which is what I did.

When I bought mine it had both barrels on the front doors busted from theft attempts (radios or other stuff, not the vehicle). They were still working but barely. So I removed them completely 'cause I dont like using the key to unlock the doors anyway, this is what central door locking is for. If you don't have central locking you can buy an aftermarket kit, they're cheap. Then I blocked the holes and fiitted some nice black hard rubber caps in place that look great, you could swear they're OE. They might give a little head itches needing scratching to potential intruders but that's not what I had in mind.
The disadvantage of what I did is that you will loose the way to disarm the OE alarm system by using the key to input the code (not sure if this is the case with the 94 models though). I don't use the original alarm although it works perfectly, I have another one fitted that does some more things extra, so I don't need to worry about that. Of course I have the back door as an emergency option.

Oh yeah should of said that as cipx2 says I now have an extra key on the keyring as this was just a new barrel with a pair of keys and not matched to my existing key. Still it was under £20 including P&P so I'm not too worried.
