I'm keeping the p38 for its original intended use in Czech but I want a new car for over here.
Now, I've convinced myself that I want a 4.2s/c But.....
Looking on the bay and aurotrader, it seems that I can buy a sport with similar mileage for less than an L322.
My question, I guess is, is the sport any good?
Yes, I know, it's not a "proper" range rover but for what I need (a heavy car with plenty of power and an elevated driving position and 4wd) is it a good choice.
Is it any more/less reliable.
Will I always feel like I should have held out for an L322?

No, not yet.
The exterior dimensions of the sport are very similar to the p38 (the sport is a bit wider but sane length)
I'm more interested in if there's any real difference between them in terms of reliability. I've heard horror stories about having to remove the body on the sport for fairly routine repairs.
I know which I'd prefer, I'm just wondering if my desire justifies the extra cost of the equivalent l322?

Are they really that much apart on price?

With regards to the Sport and it's body off palaver, I think that only applies to the TDV8, and it's to do the turbos, but some have done this task without the body off.

The 4.2s/c engine is available in both the L322 and Sport, and if your pockets are deep you may consider the later 5.0s/c.

Regarding reliability, I've heard the Sport is no worse than the 322.

If you manage to read the entire ad then kudos, I'm off to put my eyes in slings!!

Yeah, drags on a bit doesn't it!
Cheap, yes but I simply don't have the time to look at sorting out the gearbox and 200k miles is just too many.
I have seen a black one with 89k on the clock for 9 grand which is kind of where I want to be. My only suspicion is that it's been up for a long time whilst others have come and gone so what's wrong with it?
Problem is, when you work away all week, going out for a day toy buying instead of spending it with your family is somewhat frowned upon.
The 5's are beyond my budget at the moment and are more expensive to tax and insure.
I had another look last night and I think it's not that the sports are significantly cheaper, there's just a lot more to choose from at a given price point.

I've been looking for week's for a newer model, decided I didnt like the Sport, test drove one when they first came out and the seats were like park benches compared to the 38. Haven't decided which 322 to go for, I will wait until after the budget to see how they are going to sting us diesel owners . Not in a rush now that I've sorted the head on the 38, taking it for a longish run today so it had better be on its best behaviour
