K&N filter

It depends on what you want from the filter? If you are after more power there are better mods that can be made. If you simply want to save buying any more disposable paper filters then the washable K&N is a money saver in time.

i have a cone filter fitted to the L series diesel

the only differences i have noticed is it seems to rev a lot smoother than it did and is nosier...

personal choice tho and as stated above if its power your looking for start elsewhere

has anyone fitted a K&N air filter to their Td4 ? Was it any good or not worth doing?

yes .. for the past year ..

i've just now removed and replaced it with the regular type

~~~~~~~~~
the K&N offers little or no performance advantage for the td4
i.e. .. imo .. not worth it in that respect
as is .. i had to modify it slightly to make it fit properly ..
and also had a right hassle replacing the air cover after ..
( no idea if that was connected to the filter ..
( what i do know .. is that with the regular filter .. the cover was easy to re-fit
( maybe a coincidence .. dunno ..
i prefer the construction of the regular filter .. with it's added 'sleeve'
btw : that 'sleeve' is washable .. ..
and i noticed that whatever oil hit it .. didn't make it to the paper element ..
~~~~~~~~

so i've washed the K&N .. 'n stashed it in a plastic bag ..
for use in case of emergency ..

will stick with the regular filter from now on ..

~~~~~~~~
after-thought :
maybe an oiled element filter like the K&N might have an advantage should there be water ingress to the intake
e.g. hitting a deep puddle .. has been known to foul the regular paper type filter ..
( i've not tried spraying water on the K&N to find out what might occur )
hi
had mine fitted around 6 months now and i would say its worth it, but depends if you want the same things from it as i do. i fitted it for added noise and to get a bit more power and fuel economy. its improved both fuel and power slightly but it does give a big boost to the intake noise :D
Yeah, oiled filters are supposed be be bad because of the MAF. However, I've never had problems...
I'd say regular cleaning/ servicing is as good as a K&N filter in most situations. However, if you intend on having your car a while the you might save money having a fully washable one? Not cheap to start with at the side of a paper one.
