k and n air filter

Wammer, you da man when it comes to such things...Query:

With a pressurised induction system via a Turbo or Supercharger, there is always a positive air charge available....so would a free flowing induction filter akin to the K&N really be any benefit at all as it is not like you need it to allow air in quicker as this is covered and governed by the boost pressure....regardless of 'how' the air gets in there it will always be at a given pressure above atmospheric....

if it was a negative pressure induction system...i.e. Petrol sucking the air in, a free flowing filter would be of benefit (minimal on a Range Rover in anycase) as it is the induction system trying to suck the air in so a free-er flowing system would benefit from such....but with a charged induction system....there is little point!

Exactly and precisely correct Anthony, totally effin pointless to fit one. As long as you have a decent filter and keep it clean that is all that is required. Maybe make a tad of difference on a normally aspirated engine but on a turbo NADA.

Their ad's do say they increase horsepower and acceleration, which isn't quite the same.....

But a new standard filter will increase horsepower over an old clogged one so kinda depends how and when they got their results

It is also reputedly the case that the oil from a K&N can knacker the MAF by coating the hot wire sensor.

If you do a front upgrade to 2005-2009, a k&n filter is a better fit as the OEM is too tight a squeeze. (Well it is on a 4.4 v8 petrol anyway)
