were I you i'd be getting the tow truck to relay you and the car back to the tosser in Enfield you bought it from - assuming you're telling us everything... not missing out the part where you put it in difflock in the uni car park just before you lost drive

Well, I did take it for as spin in the uni carpark with a friend about 3 hours before it happend, I did put it in diff lock (front left position on the small g/lever) and we went up some little dirt hills and got a bit of lean on. but then I took it out of diff lock and put it back to 2 wheel drive (to the back and right on the little g/lever).

Assuming the bloke isn't a member on here and reading this, take it back and see if you can get it fixed for nowt;) but do not think about driving it again until you've done a lot of research on this site into what diff lock is, when you need to use it and realise that disco's are permanent 4wd.

well, i dont know if it was actually out of diff lock, how can u tell?
I put the little gearstick back to the position (rear right) it was in before when i drove it back for 80 miles.
so what actually happend then if the diff was still locked, are both diffs fecked now?

true, I have no idea what diff lock is and when or how to use it, I am a total newbie to all of this and it looks like i have to learn the hard way.

It's all part of owning a landie mate, if the diffs were still locked while you were driving it they will be fecked coz they don't like going round corners like that. There is a difflock light on the dash but these invariably go wrong so don't rely on it, you just have to get used to the feel of it going in and out of hi/lo, difflock etc.

here is a pic of it:

does anybody know of a 4x4 specialist around oxford where i could take it to have it repaired as I haven't got the time right now to look at it myself.

the bottom left light on the dash was on since I bought it and i drove all the way home with it and it was fine.

i assume difflock was on the whole 80 miles

Do you have **** loads of money?
If you do, you could try Newbury 4x4.... or there's frog island 4x4 near Abingdon, but you'd need serious money totaled it there

I have a mechanic whoS my neighbour and works on landies.he does some jobs on mine but he's always fully booked would probably be 2 months till he could look at yours...

If you don't have time for a disco...I hope you have money lol

seeing it parked there with a brick under the wheel, does the hand break work? when \i say this I mean with the leaver up would it still role away?

its the on that looks like a "H" on its side

Yup that's the difflock light, you need to get it to a mechanic to see the extent of the damage to them coz 80+ miles with the diffs locked =:eek::eek::eek::eek:, but you never know you might be lucky. It does seem odd that they both went at the same time though.
