Just bought a '01 Freelander 2.5V6 ES Estate Auto

Took someone with me who went over it; did some odd things like driving backwards in circles with a hard lock on. Checked for water in the oil, oil in the water, leaks etc. Has 90k on it with the cambelts changed at 72k, full service history and a new MOT.

Love the car! it drives great, has the trimmings, leather etc.

Gone 500 miles so far, (err...mostly the O/H - can't get her out of it:mad:) and only faults apparent:

Power sunroof can stick (which I knew about and as the aircon's fine, not bothered).

Clock/radio display a bit wonky but legible.

So far so good!

:welcome2:

Hope you enjoy your Freelander! Welcome to the forums! There's a wealth of info to be had on here about all things Land Rover and some other stuff besides. Just search for stuff previously covered before asking the obvious questions! But if you can't find what you're looking ask away! Someone will answer you eventually! :D

Try not take any abuse you get for owning and driving a Freelander to heart! Just ignore them and give as good as you get! Start saving too! V6's cost to repair!

Better idea, buy another V6 lump and sit it ready to switch over. Then, when the current one blows you can spread the cost of the rebuild.....

Happy freelandering. :D

Good for you. I was chatting to a bloke that buys and sells mostly LR's the other day and he loves the V6 and cant understand the detractors. Just dont expect a 30k motor for 5k and you be fine.:)

Having just entered the world of FL ownership myself, I couldn't agree more - they are great. Incidentally, my wife also loves our one (so much that she's thinking of outing her Mini Cooper in favour of a TD4).

One piece of advice I was given about the sunroof is - remove the fuse.

Apparently, what happens is that the cables stretch and eventually get to the stage where the sunroof can come open, never to close again. When that happens, you have to drop the headlining - ouch!

If the roof closes and is water tight, take fuse 12 out of the drivers side fuse box and leave it that way - you've still got plemty of windows to open.

I`ve had my `04 Td4S for about 3 months now, and it`s the best car I have owned so far. Don`t worry about the little faults you have, just remember it`s 9 years old and has been around the world nearly 4 times. All cars have faults at some time or other.

I agree, just enjoy it, Td4 Commercial thats just gone over the 90k mark.

Drives great, comfy and is reliable!

IV Just bought a O2 TD4, picking it up next week, cant waite. Its good to see so much info on here, lets just hope I dont need it !! But if the TD4 works as hard as my 200 TDI Disco, I'll be more than happy. So much so, that I couldn't bring myself to get rid or the Disco !! so now I'v got 2 Landies :) Ah well, Deff and Dumb meals for a week and I'm sure she'll come round
