So just bought a defender the other night. I've been posting a few questions here before buying so thanks all those who have helped.

She's a high milage (180k) slightly unloved 1999 TD5. Actually I don't think she's in too bad shape. I've seen much worse looking ones with lower milage. Engine pretty much runs fine. No smoke, starts well, idles well and seems to pull ok. There is a little bit of a whine that I need to investigate. Just established that it also occurs out of gear and stationery when I rev the engine. I'll probably want to take a look at the steering which feels off a little and probably give the brakes an overhaul.

So, so far so good. Just had it out for an unnecessary drive a few moments ago and really enjoy driving it. Will give it a good drive at the weekend.

Okay, Sounds nice........................................Now where are the PICCIES????????? We like piccies........:D:D:D:D

Cheers

I'll be driving her from Edinburgh to Dunkeld at the weekend so will take a few pics then. It's been dark most of the times I've been out in her so far.

Steering pulls a little to the left. Mind you every car I've owned seems to pull to the left so I'm used to it.

If the steering pulls to the left sorting the brakes might just solve your problem.

Well the plan was that this was to be a purely functional vehicle to help with my house move and refurbishment. However I can see it becoming a bit of a hobby car. I'm already searching the web for things I can spend some money on to make little improvements and upgrades.

Needlandy, I may take you up on that. It would be good to compare mine against another vehicle as I've no background in these vehicles to compare to.

"Searching for things to spend money on" ????
You just bought a Landy........search no further :p

Yeah I'm not going to go too crazy on the bling as one thing will lead to another. Will be prioritising any deferred maintenance and look to tidy things up a little.

Sure, no problem. I know a couple of local mechanics, welders, and MOT guy who are very Landy friendly that I can introduce you to if needed.

A couple of pics of the Defender up at dunkeld. With and without snow.

Think the seal burst on my clutch master cylinder on the way up as there was a puddle of black break fluid under the pedal made it home the next day no problem. I'll get the slave changed as well. Can't do this myself right now as my tools are in storage until I move house. Will probably drop it into Whites garage in Edinburgh for convenience as it's just around the corner from me.

Well, brake fluid shouldn't be black, so obviously was time for a refurbish anyway. As far as ' Just had it out for an unnecessary drive ', isn't that what it's all about? I have a nice real car, with heating, comfy seats etc, but I still enjoy an unnecessary drive whenever I can. Best wishes. :)
