Hello to everyone I’m new here and I want to take some of your ideas before take my car to a mechanic.
I moved for work to another country and when I came back like 3 months later i start my freelander and was good but after a few rides my gears was stucks and the clutch needs a little little bit to move the car later When I open the hood and the engine is running i hear a sound like something little thing hitting like a little thing hitting a plastic ? Some thing like i get my car to my mechanic bc is fixing only land rovers and he told me the car needs to sit here and we need open the engine..
Any ideas what is it ?
How much i will pay and if is worth to fix it ?
The engine bought from uk with 60k kilometres back in 2018.
I changed a lot of things for 1.5years that il drive the car.
Like
New master cylinder in the clutch new clutch
Gasket on the gearbox
Thermostat
Radiator
Intercooler
And something else the car has don’t have the 4X4 because back in the years was destroyed on the road
But I love so much this car!!!

I take it this is a diesel from before 2000? If so it is the L Series not a TD4.

The fuel injection pump makes a ticking sound - this is normal - or is it a different sound?

Not sure what sounds would stop it going into gear.

If it won't change gear, I would look to the clutch slave cylinder which is bolted to the side of the gearbox - it pushes a release arm that goes through the bell housing to push n the release bearing.

The hydraulics can wear out - this is a single piece containing sealed master/slave and pipework. Also check the bracket it bolts to, this can bend or crack. Also check that the slave is clipped correctly into the bracket.

Also check that the release arm is not seized. Lubricate it with a little oil.

No it’s 1.8 K series 1998

Is it a standard engine?

The K Series presumably does not have an intercooler.

The K Series uses that same clutch as the L Series - so the "clutch master" is a complete 3-in-1 part containing master & slave cylinders and piping as a sealed unit. The same info as above applies - check the slave bracket and release arm for being seized.

That is unless some other non-standard clutch hydraulics have been installed.

Is the sound from the belt end of the engine or the gearbox end?

Sorry the radiator has blown up not intercooler sorry for that..
I change the master cylinder because my clutch was broken and goes all way down !
The ticking noise is coming under the hood first noise I remember is like trrrr trrrr trrrrrr trrr and next is come new noise the ticking noise i want to know if im gonna pay so much money or nah ..😂

I can’t because my car it’s on Greece and im on Cyprus right but the sound is like tik tik tik tik
It's been known for the cam followers to drain down after an extended period of rest. The empty followers then take a long time to fill again, which results in a tick tick tick sound until they fill.
