Hello I‘m new. This is my second Freelander 2, had it seven weeks. My previous one was a 2008 automatic SD4HSE which I had for five years and loved, though it started to become very costly with various faults, so I sold it and bought a newer model. Unfortunately I’m not in the slightest mechanically minded or capable as some of the knowledgeable people on here are. So, I already have two problems with this one, also an automatic SD4HSE 2013 reg. It’s booked into the garage tomorrow to have the EGR valve replaced, driving back to Hampshire from North Yorkshire on Sunday ‘Restricted Performance’ light appeared and Engine Transmission light appeared, along with sluggish acceleration. Diagnostics found EGR problem. So that’s being sorted.
The other problem is that when I’m in a traffic jam, crawling after a few stop/starts, when I release the break the car jolts quite violently (jump out of my skin stuff), once I start to accelerate it’s fine, until the next time I need to brake and release. Would this be anything to do with the EGR valve? Or is it a brake problem? I have no other warning lights appear. So far it doesn’t bode well, after seven weeks, having problems. Any helpful, positive suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you. 🙏

By Brake do you mean foot-brake or Hand-Brake?
It sounds like something is binding "ON" and takes a bit of power through the drive train to un-jam/release rather than a smooth pull-away. If you don't have spanner-hands find a recommended local independent LR servicer near you (not main stealer).
@Nodge68 or another FL devotee will be along soon to give advice I am sure.

Thank you. Foot break.

Welcome.
It's best to ask technical questions in the relevant forum. The Freelander section being where your question will get seen the most.

As to the fault. There is a gearbox issue that can cause jolting on moving away from rest.
It's best to have the vehicle servicing bought up to date, as important fluids are never changed when they should be, so problems arise.

Thank you. Seems I need to familiarise myself with this site a little. I see someone else had the same jolting problem on 14 April….
