Hi, on my disco 1 200tdi there is a jingley rattle noise from behind the bottom pulley between the timing belt cover and the pully, does anybody know what little circular thing is loose? on inspection it looks like some kind of dust cover?

thanks, chris

There is an oil seal / dust seal in cam belt cover if my memeory serves me right from last changing the cam belt on my 200tdi - just a push / tap into place item, although if its got as far as jingling i would definitely remove the front cover and get the belt checked before replacing as dirt may have entered the housing, or bits of the seal itself.

If its on yer bottom pulley it IS a crud cover and behind that is yer crankshaft oil seal. On series engine the bloody thing is held on by rivets however as things have moved on since the dark ages I'm hoping yours made be held in place with set screws or summat that have come loose.

Regards WP.

On a 200 Tdi that item is bolt on i think, but is behind the large cast cam belt cover not infront of as i think the post was refering too. Imo my 200 tdi is still dark ages. :p

he he, on land rover anything is possibly!!!
i will take it all to bits at the weekend!
any tips for the mega tight bottom pully bolt

Sorry I have compressor and airgun which makes it easy, you could try a long breaker bar with diff lock engaged, low range, 1st gear with handbrake on, then 'lean on it' a bit.

Word of warning from experience - 1 of the bolts securing the cover is less than obvious esp if dirt on engine & most of the bolts differ in length, with many being very similar but NOT the same!
