Hi guys

just recently bought a d1 300tdi auto and whilst doing the deal the dealer asked if we wanted it waxoiling and we said yes as the car has been wax oiled from new but the engine bay is covered in years of wax oil and the dust has soaked into it and was thinking of jet washing the engine bay, is there anything i should be carefull of in the engine bay whilst jet washing it.

Personally I wouldn't put a jet anywhere near it.
There's all sorts of electricary and sensors etc which could be damaged. You'll more than likely knock all the fins outta your rad n'all..

if you soak the areas you want to clean in a degreaser, then are carefull with the jet, ive got a tiny little jet washer thats fine for the engine bay as its so small. Just put a thick cloth over areas you dont want to damage. Try and do it on a warm day and leave the bonnet open for a few hours after for it to dry off properly

My series has no problems with having a jet to the engine... I guess this is a lil different though

yes use a steam jet washer not normal household water jet kartcher thing! go to a car washing place they will have a specific steamer jetwasher but before u go soak the parts with degreaser for 24 hours etc

OOh,the electrics on a 300 auto can be very funny about water as I have found to my cost.Is it not a good idea to bag the alternator or do it with the engine running? Im talking about a steam clean rather than a pressure wash here......also there should be labels inside the bonnet about re-waxing certain parts after steamwashing.

cheers guys i have decided on using a couple of cans of brake cleaner as its only the inner wings i am concerned about, don't want to keep getting covered in oil if i need to work under the bonnet.

think you should of bought anything other than a landrover if you have a phobia about oil.

i don't have a phobia about oil but i don't want to be driving to my caravan from manchester to cornwall dressed up and if for any reason i need to open the bonnet and look / fix something either on the way there or on the way back and get covered in **** ;)
