right people i wanna put a jag v12 engine in a 90 what problems am i likely to ave other than fuel bills anyone think this might not be possible ?

as these engines from the early jags are bullit proof the only reason they end up in scrapyards is rotten bodies just wanna see how quick a off roader i can build but it has to be a landy

anything is possible you just need the imagination, skill and equipment to do the job. Oh and a healthy dose of insanity often helps. But if you have all of those then I don't see why it can't be done. I have no idea how long a v12 jag engine is so don't know if it'd fit in but if it did then your next problem is making up a connector plate to connect the engine, clutch & gearbox together.

cant see much of a problem apart from blowin tha crap outta any known landy.

ya think the 90 bottom end will handle the extra power?

Should be OK (providing there's room), exhausts might need fettling around inner wings, and Jag J-gate box will handle the power and you can get adapter plates to make 'em fit. From a mate who owned a Jag V12 a coupla years ago, it was 4.5mpg round town - a pound a ferkin mile!!!!!

ffs ave already started this idea about 3 months ago and gave up cos the amount of work involved putting injun in wasn't worth the effort. its too long! but if yer looking fer a v12 its still lying here

The Jag V-12 engine is good, but rather long.
However, the Landy engines sit well back as we all know, so you may have room for it and still have the radiator at the front. You could fit a pusher fan in front of the radiator if there isn't room on the engine side.

Mating up with a Landy gearbox should be OK, but you'll need a manual Jag flywheel and clutch, with the Defender centre plate.

Keep a very good log of the way you assemble it because you'll probably have to do it many times, as the Jag engine will tear the Landy Gearbox apart first and every time you deck the throttle in first gear!

But if you were very gentle, it would look impressive, and sound great!

I've seen a Hummer 6.3 V8 diesel in a Series 3 landy. Guy was trying to sell it. He wouldn't let us test drive it, and he was being VERY VERY gentle on the clutch and throttle. Transmission was goosed ...

But suppose you used the whole Jag engine and transmission, and just had it two wheel drive for fun? Now THAT could be amusing, and you could use an automatic gearbox!

We did a similar stunt way back when I was a MP in the early 60s. We fitted a TR2 engine and box to an old (even then!) army Landy, made it 4 x 2 drive, and that was the first vehicle the RMP had that could catch up with a Beford 3 ton truck! It was good fun as long as it stayed on the black top.

tha jag v12 is a 90 degree vee init? wont that be too wide 4 the 90 engine bay. me inlaws had an xjs v12 an i remember it was one huge lump of ali.

I saw one done, back in the early 80s. It was 2wd though, with the jag injun and g.box and the front half of the jag prop welded to the back half of the landy prop driving a sailsbury rear axle.
had the rad mounted in the tub with a couple of big leccy fans.

i wanna keep it a offroader so it has to stay with 4wd box although the 2wd would be easier to set up i will probably have to use the auto box setup off the v8 i should be able to get some kind of adapter plate made to make this box meet the engine just trying to source the likes of a clutch that will hold without going pop every 10 mins and cooling i think i'll start off by buying a rolling chassis and bulkhead no body as be a lot easier to work on without panels in the way not sure though whether to use the 90 or the 100" rangy one any ideas as we already established it is a big arse engine but if i pull it off it will be somthing else one off the best sounding engines in the world in the body of a legend

I hope you like plumbing:D seriously you will need a big radiator and big fans . The standard set up in the XJS was a viscous and a leccy fan as well , they generate a lot of heat. They even had a heat exchanger supplied by the aircon for the fuel line to stop the fuel boiling in the injection system.
Lots of torque at 100mph they still give you a hit in the back when you floor the accelerator Good luck youre going to need it or very deep pockets:)

Sound like its a good job he is into heating and plumbing :D

Did we... thought you was making a new device :D

Not new at all!

JCB diggers, such as the 3C series have a clutch AND a torque coverter in line.

So you can drive up to a pile of rock with the front bucket down, and when it digs in the machine will come to a halt, but the engine keeps running, and you deck the throttle and wiggle the bucket lever, and the torque converter just rams the whole machine in deeper. VERY impressive.

Learn somthing new every day :D cheers :)

I've seen a 90 fitted with this engine, it was a very tight fit, required lots of messing and worst of all drove terribly as the front end was so much heavier (even though it's an ali engine) sounded brilliant and went quick in a fairly straight line until diff, gear box, propshaft, clutch etc (fix one then another bit brakes) went bang.
