Ok, i took my 2001 TD5 disco into a landrover dealer the other day. The currently has 80K miles on it and i was just curious what sort of p/x price i would get on it if i moved up to the discovery 3 model. The dealer's reaction when i told him it had 80K miles on it was one of pure shock.

He then went on to tell me that 80K is very high mileage and that most people get scared when buying cars that have this many miles on the clock.

Is this guy winding me up or does he have a point?

I thought that 80K was pretty good. He then went on to tell me that many punters would be put off becuase it was a manual.

Guys and Gals. If your car has only two pedals then you have got the womens version.

Well I guess you have to know diesels, I knew someone who thought 90,000 miles and it still runs was amazing, this guy is also fairly technicaly minded, what we need is to educate the masses.

Manual would put people off?.. whats that about, don't sell it through a dealership, there only going to give you the book price, regardless of the anything you have done to it. A lot of dealerships get the school run mums in the door I would imagine, at 80000miles they might wonder how many school runs are left in it.

I was put off with all autos. Its no fun to drive if u dont do anythign with the left side of ur body!

Bazza don't be a ****. I suffer from a condition which means I have to have an automatic.

Also a car is worth what someone will pay for it. A 80k manual disco has got plenty of life in it and is an attractive buy to the right person. The dealer wants to make a profit and not overburn his warranty rating with LR, so of course he's not going to offer you a handsome price because he'll trade or auction it, not resell it. Your pride and joy has entered the sub-prime car market - so try selling privately.

None taken, I suffer from the condition of 'I wanted a 4.0 V8 Defender and I could only get it with an auto, although I think I prefer them for off roading, despite rubbish engine braking they're quite handy in boggy stuff'. Oh, and I'm lazy. Gotcha though:p Now I feel small for doing that to you. Sorry:(

Good sport. I get about 14 mpg overall, but it has been Overfinched and I can't resist burning off a few unsuspectings at the lights!
