Is the price of land rovers really that seasonal?

People have told me, many times, that 4x4s are worth more in winter, but is that really, actually, true?

Ive got two land rovers - one ive owned for 3 years, and the other since last century. So the idea of buying a car for winter is lost on me, but maybe some people do?

Im in the market for another land rover - im looking for a 300tdi 110 csw, but im in no real rush. If things are really seasonal, i guess id do better waiting till the summer, but then do you think it also depends on age?

(ie someone with enough cash to be that fickle when it comes to cars probably isnt in the market for a 20yr old motor either?)

What do you think?

Im sure there are cheapish landys to be had anytime but it tends to be ,convertibles are in demand in spring and summer and 4x4s are in demand in autumn and winter which will drive up prices

having said that some landy prices atm are eye watering !

At the low end yes, a rotten but working discovery with 6 months mot is worth £1000 now but only £500 in May

Yes, only going to be the low/middle end runners might see any effect.
Non runners obviously unaffected and stuff over 5k will fetch its value anyway.
Cant say I have seen any particular seasonal increases round here, but most of the SW doesn't get very cold.
Always seems to be a selection of old landies in the local paper, whatever time of year

Better ones do seem to be fetching good money now!
I guess a triple whammy, overcomplicated modern alternatives, end of Def production, and very much cheaper fuel!

Depends on how bad the winter is. I live in a village with a busy 4x4 main dealer garage. It has a lot of high end trade ins on the forecourt too. I remember a few years ago, when we had a lot of snow over several weeks, they were doing a roaring trade and all the 4x4's on the forecourt went. Asking top money too. Supply and demand pushes the price up. Weather dictates the demand, certainly up here if it's a bad year.

I bought a 4x4 a few years back one October and then the snow came in December - I was offered nearly three times what I paid for it!! Some of the vehicles I buy and sell can really hang around at certain times of year. With the floods being all over our screens and then winter is yet to come it may be no surprise that values of our Land Rovers are strong.

I bought a disco yesterday with a long mot for £700 so I could take my motorbike off of the road for the winter. I may keep it anyway the 110 is turning into a full rebuild!

petrol prices being so low help, gas guzzler values seem to be going up now prices have come back to near a quid from their £1.40 highs, people have such short memories, 4x4's and winter is another example, when I bought my first landy it was may/june but getting up and down the road in winter was one of the reasons I bought it

mates just got a 06 plate disco ( nothing to do with winter his range rover got smashed) and what hes found is while prices havent gone up the dealers wont do good deals no money off, no extras, more like..thats price...take it or leave it, same time 2 bmw convertibles had..sale price now....with 500 quid off
