Hello to all. I have recently signed up to landyZone as a new member and this is my first post

I have come across a stunning Freelander on a 2005 plate. It’s got the 2.5 v6 engine and a auto box. I wanted some advice on what you guys think of it

It’s avertised at just under 80k with full history and one owner from new. It’s also advertised as a ‘premium Sport A’ model. Can someone shed some light on the spec on this please. And finally is this car a rare find or it is so rubbish no one wants them

Thank you in advance and I look forward to meeting other members

Dunno much about Freelander, but I do know it had the MG V6, which was quite thirsty and is discontinued now! So yes, it's probably rare but also, yes, I reckon it's rare 'cos not many people want them! Just my opinion ... ;)

Rover kv6 was the second most popular engine fitted in the Freelander 1. Far more popular outside of the UK in countries who like big thirsty engines. Helps if petrol is free like Dubai and usa. It's true they were thirsty but when rover closed int 2005 they couldn't get enough engines. Land rover did have a stock pile but not enough. The Freelander 2 was near to finishing development at this point so they didn't go to the effort of picking another engine to replace it.

Welcome to the forum

2005 registered V6 FL1 isn't a rare vehicle as such. But there won't be many int uk as the diesel was cheaper to run with fewer bad things said about it.

Thanks hippo for that information. Believe me you can’t seem too find the history of the engine with the landrover on the internet. It’s prob out there somewhere in the big World Wide Web lol.

I am a restorer and collecter. I come across this one and thought it was rare and wanted more information. I might add it to the collection or put it up for sale once a few bits have been sorted and upgraded. Any idea how much they are worth ?

Price is difficult to judge. Not many want the v6 due to fool consumption. It's a 13 year old car. The sport premium was a kind of gimmick model later on in Freelander production. It's just a sport model which had a slightly lower ride height and suspension feels stiffer. Not sure if any other features were different.

Later models had the revised cabin layout/design. Leather seats and higher spec models get a betterer price. Many don't trust the v6. I think the price would be £1000 if clean and in good condition as not many late v6 about in the UK as the Td4 diesel was the betterer option for most. An ex rover enthusiast would probably buy it because they like the engine and yer can't buy rovers anymore. V6 sells to a small market of buyers. But price is lower compared to diesel options. Yer get more for yer money with a v6 because price is lower.

Thank you for taking your time out and replying to my questions. I realy appreciate it and you have given me info on a freelancer that is very hard to find. I have made the purchase this morning and it’s sitting in the work shop as we speak. Defo very thirsty but I believe there is someone out there who will look past that. I will be posting the pics on here for you guys to see once it’s completed. Thanks again

It does suffer head gasket failure but its a consequence of something else causing it normally. Like a leak from a pipe or coolant reservoir which drops the pressure in the cooling system. The pressure is there to raise the boiling point of the coolant but once it's gone it will over heat. The fl1 v6 runs hot. Fans come on at 109 and go oft at 106 degrees. Water starts to boil at 92 degrees. :(

Thermostat housing in the middle of the v of the engine is a favoute to crack causing coolant loss.

Lord hippo you know your stuff. Has off to you.

I have brought the freelander 2.5 V6 2005. The engine is pErfect. It’s just some small stuff that needs sorting so I was after some advice

The sunroof don’t seem to be working. Could this be more then a faulty switch or a fuse? Are they prone to mess up? What’s the solution?

How much would a set of original side folding mirrors set me back?

My car is equipped with the Harmon Larson sound system. However the rear speaker (subwoofer) seems to be blown. Any replacements you would recommend?

Thank you in Advance

Start a fred in the safety of the Freelander section and list yet faults. More freelanderers will see it in there and help.

Keep an eye on the coolant and if it drops stop driving it and investigate. Until then enjoy it.

When sunroofs fail the normal fix is to remove the fuse. Sliding bits seize or rust up. Taking the fuse out stops it from opening if yer press the button by mistake.

Have a look int scrap yard or on e bay fer mirrors. Not sure about speaker. I assume it needs to be the same type, resistance and wattage.
