im thinking of lifting my freelander eg taller/bigger springs but never heard of anyone doing it? any ideas??
i'm probably gonna get some sarcastic comments on here but some serious answers would be great too lol:D

 surprised you never heard of lifted freelanders. 000's of threads mention it!!!!! 2" spacers on top of struts. see above post, or fleabay
:welcome2:

thanks for that i'm gonna read past threads too see what i can dig up. BUT on a more s.h.1.t note ive had my freelander about a week now and had a look underneath for the first time today and had a bit of a shock, now i know i should of had a look before i bought it and surprise surprise the propshafts been removed GUTTERED!!! so ive godda get a propshaft and vc joint before i can even start to think about lift kits and bigger tyres:frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty:

Your not the first to do this. They've probably bin removed due to problems wiv the ird or rear diff, after the vcu seized up. Ask the seller if they still have them, or why they've bin removed. If from a garage then they should supply them as part of the Freelander.

i did a deal on a vectra i had (straight swap) and the bloke came to me but he lives in redditch 2 and a half hours away from me! so looks like im gonna ave to get a prop shaft firs!

being new to the whole freelander scene im still a newbie but dont freelanders have a button on the gearstick? whats it for because mine doesnt have that so should my freelander be permanent 4wd?

The button is hdc = hill desecnt control. Effectivley monitors vehicle speed un reduces it using the abs independently on the wheels to slow it down. Used on slopes. Works in first or reverse gear only. Auto gearbox models have the switch behind or infront of the gear lever.

Not all Freelander 1's have it. Think it became standard 2001 onwards, or somewhere there. If you have hdc then you have etc electronic traction control which is very useful orf road as it stops spinning wheels, so the power can go to the wheels wiv grip.

4x4 isn't selectable on Freelander 1's as such. It's an effect of... If a wheel spins, then the ratio of difference in speed of front prop v rear prop increases. This causes a sheering effect on the silicon and the plates in the vcu, which sort of locks it up to pass power through it.

ebay fro prop shafts and bell engineering for the vcu.

Try to get them orf the seller thoguh. He may still have some parts. Maybe that if you fit them you'll find a fault wiv the ird. Removing props and/or vcu when there's ird probelms is a common quick fix.

thanks for that hippo, i can feel a hole load of problems starting already lol. are all freelanders permanent 4wd then?
Said to ber permanent 4x4 due to the fact the driver/car has no control over it. A Freelander 2 has an electrically controlled hadex clutch thing. This can be controlled. A Freelander 1 relies on spinning wheels causing rotational speed of the props (inputs to the vcu) to vary, causing the vcu to sort of "lock up" temporay to provide 4x4. But the vcu is said to pass a small amount of power in normal use, hence the permanent 4x4 thing. Driver/car doesn't have control of the lock up on a Freelander 1.

Thanks for that i understand now im toying with the idea of selling my freelander and gonna try and convince the wife to let me get a disco its a long shot but i think im in for a long haul to get my freelander to its previous state eg 4wd for a start lol

There's a damn fine write up of how a VCU works in LROi this month.

Disco's have their own issues as do most vehicles. Try a local scrappy for Hippo prop shaft and VCU if you dont have one available to fit.

i went to my local scrappy a couple of days ago for a ignition switch but surprise surprise there was only a few k series in there :D
Im gonna try and find a LR breakers yard in doncaster im sure they'll be one somewere

no matter what car you have and no matter how much the lift your axels will still be the same height of the road unles you get bigger tyres then you have to have a re- callabration on your speedo hope this helps
