Is it not time that this forum was subdivided into Classic, P38 & L322?

Sorry if this has been discussed before - just wondered what people thought? All the other Range Rover forums seem to have taken this route.

No.

First of all, its the fact of liking RRs that unites us, not how new or old someone's car is. Secondly, there's a natural evolution amongst those models. Third, there's a corresponding natural evolution in the forum: if at the moment comments are predominantly about P38s, then about Classics and less about the L322 this reflects the age and population density of those cars. This will naturally change as fewer P38s survive and go to the breakers and more L322s change hands and come to us DIYers. don't fix it if it ain't broke.

I tend to agree - they all have their different problems, but a lot of the issues are intertangable (like the starter motors) - as a P38 owner it is nice to see there are still classic issues with steering and suspension and the new L322 issues with sat navs :frusty:

If you wanted to split out, perhaps two forums, one for gangsters who want 22" wheels and tinted windows and one for mud lovers who want winches and diff protectors....

Just playing devil’s advocate here there really isn't any (technical) commonality between a P38 and a L322, which is basically an E53 BMW (X5) underneath, is there? Can one group really learn anything from the other?

I don't think a change to the format you suggest is needed. Even if the post title doesn't give the game away the facility to 'pre-view' means I simply don't open anything that I'm not interested in, i.e P38's & later models. Lets keep it simple (like the vehicles themselves!)

Interesting concept and I can see both sides of the argument. Maybe prefixing the subject title with classic/P38/L322 when you write your post subject would be a way forward. e.g. P38 - Steering issue.

I personally like this format and believe that many of the members have gone from one model to another. Their experience is invaluable and if you split the forum that experience may be pigeon holed in the wrong place or at the very least not accessible to the majority simply because the subject is not available for all to see!

If you subdivide the forums the Butlers will get confused about which models they are supposed to be looking at. They already have problems with identifying if they have a Range Rover or a General Question.
