Folks,
Tell me; what is all this about the K series engines ... do the steel liners really drop? I want to get a Freebie and I need to choose between the V6 and the TD4. Reliability is key.
Thanks in advance. And have a great Christmas!!

indeed the steel liners do really drop. if you're heart is set on a freelander, then go for the
td4. make sure you do a search on here for common faults, but I've a td4 auto, really happy with it.

There is no choice - doozil every time...............

lets put it this way - my KV6 cost me 6 grand in a year in repairs - your choice.

There's a good video on Youtube. It was made by an american firm that improve the KV6. It shows exactly why the wet liners slip and what the result is. Then, of course, they explain what they have done to improve this. I'll see if I can find it. Its really interesting and it does make you think, what the hell were LR thinking when they designed that thing and did they actually conduct design reviews????

That's why we all love engine advice. It's quick, anyone can join in, there's no foreplay and you don't need to wash the curtains afterwards...

i went to tech school with loads a rover guys ...rover had a contract with the same school to teach them things ...........i can say from expirience the blokes building the engines (1.8k series) didnt give a **** when they fitted the liners if they were a few thou out so be it .... general build around the factory was the same ...so maybe this rubbed off on the landy lines and there build unit ...(rover engines were different from the ford ones some thing about different gaskets and bolt bridges in the sumps)
one of the top rover tech spec guys was a bloke from the shop floor that had only ever welded landrover door tops ....but i have no moved on and have a bit todo with big isuzu engines and they some times can drop liners but there not shimmed ther place fitted with a sealer around the bottom .......................
