sounds like your fan belt getting wet and slipping the altenater belt is run off the power steering pully check its not got too much play in it (either of the belts) more likely to be the altenater 1

All the belt's seem tight it's a pain when it's really cold and if it get wet thoght mud would it be easy to fix are do i need new one's

When i drive i pull away and the noise come's then goes once i pick up speed

i'd say you need to tighten it (altenater) might be that they need replacing my old 200tdi would get the point where they would'nt tighten up enough so i would replace um

You wanna try a 300 Tdi with an old belt if you want to hear strange sounds when they get wet and muddy.

They get small, 5mm long, cracks in the outer part and the teeth get rounded/cracked on the 'working' side. I use graphite powder (From a Locksmiths) dusted over, but the real fix is to change them as they will break eventually.

Are they easy to change and how sure are you that could be the problem as i want to start some off road stuff soon .

well after 10 years and probably 5/6 fan belt changes i think i'm right ;)
by the way my disco 200tdi i fitted into my 90 td
should be easier to change than they are on my old 90 undo the p.a.s. first then alteneter then tighton the other way around (p.a.s. first)

so i will go and get he belts then

Get them on with the other part's air fitter fuel fitter oil fitter new glow plugs & battery and was thinking about the cam belt's too
