hi, freelander 1800 petrol injection 1998. the idle generally ranges between 1100 1300rpm. but at junctions etc.once stopped regulary at 2500rpm, a quick blib of the throttle will bring it down again but will still be irratic and sometimes climbs rapidly again forcing me to blip it again.also suffered total power loss on the run, will idle but when depressed throttle revs drop.turn engine off and after 2-3 mins will run again. changed plugs, leads, dissi cap+rota arm.what next?thanks y-disco for pointers.

Erm welcome chapelcotts!

usually at this point ,i would refer to my trust rave Cd,(kindly supplied by a fello member of this forum) and try to assist you in you quest,BUT my darling teenage daughter has a nasty habbit of not returning Cd's to there correct cases, Hence i picked up what i thought was a music cd i copied for a trip to Scotland, only to find it made lots of squeeky, blippy noises when inserted to the cd changer, hence! in a fit of ****ed offness the offending cd was ejected from the hippo mid journey,
grrrrh! So! Dunno mate, but ming wont be far wrong!

MORE HELP REQ. eliminated inlet manifold, air hoses for splits+blockages, has aluminium throttle body housing +cleaned inside, keep suggestions coming.map is integral to ecu.

replace the throttle body, sometimes they stick but also the TPI gives the wrong reading to the ecu and the stepper motor for idle control wont do it job properly hence fast erratic idle

Think its because I took the hippo into too deep a puddle:eek:

The puddle in question came a third of the way up the doors, and guess what?

They didnt fall off:p :D
Dont know if any of this is of use/relevant chapelcotts but..........

Think I musta got some ****e in the electrics, Engine management light flashing a while, staying on for a bit, flashing again, staying on for a bit more..... etc etc.... blah blah blah:(
Also running like its misfiring, shaking about like the missus' vibrator

Gonna strip the injectors tomorrow and look at the electric plug thingy on the under side. Looked a bit gunked up with sand and silt today:eek:
Is there a timing sensor anywhere that could be clogged? Any other ideas please in case I'm way off the mark?
