I have noticed on some photographs I have seen some folks have a long bar-like handle on the inside of their back doors. Like this:

or this:

Has anyone any idea where to get one or what they are called or a parts number for them?

I'm darned if I can find them.

Thanks if anyone can help (or can make me one cheap.)

Ron.

Any breakers yard should have one. If possible get one like in the first pic. I had the second type and it broke where the tube is crushed flat from people putting weight on it and subsequently bending it whilst climbing in and out.

First photo is series type, second later models.

The first type was also fitted to early 110s and Military Hardtops.

Its part number is - MTC6456

It's officially been superceded by the later type - MUC1402

The later type is crap and breaks, as Boris113 has described.

Look around for an earlier type, or use a 'safety handle' from B&Q, etc..

.

I thank each and every one of you for your replies.

Boris and PaulMC, I suspected this would be the case as it looks as if it might flex when in use, but as I intend to mount a small cooker on the door I was thinking the shape would suit me better and as I'm the only one to use it, I think I'll get away with it. Thanks to Paul's part numbers, one is now on order from Paddocks (I had something waiting in my wish list.)

I did try searching, but couldn't think what to call it beyond interior door handle. Tottot thanks for the info and Aaron, thanks for the link....

Funnily enough, I had thought I could use a shower safety handle if all else failed ... then I found a nice bit of tube I have, just needs ends flattened, but I'll go with the one from Paddocks since they are less than a tenner.

Its the outside that needs a handle in my view.

Why never fitted is remarkable - however it does allow self fit of alloy rear cross meber handle.

Heres one I made earlier......

I could have done with that a few months ago ... I seldom use my back door and it had managed to sort of rust shut, it was very embarrassing in the big Asda car park in Dundee as I stood and wrestled with my door trying to open it. In the end I had to put my shopping in through the front door and swore a few more times at it out of sight in a layby, got it eventually by yanking on the spare at the same time as the handle ... needless to say, it got a lot of grease applied and am now awaiting my swing away wheel carrier to take some of the weight off it.

Yes, you are right, had never thought of it before, but now I see it, I agree, they should have something similar as standard.

That's a right nice looking beastie you have there, I like a lot of the extras, especially the air vents above the door ...... hmmm more to add methinks, will be good for when I'm sleeping in the back. Got any part numbers for them?

Thank you very muchly Paul.... General consensus is they bare a bad idea as they let water in. I'll give them a miss.
