Im 17, and currently learning, when i've passed, im looking to get a Landy, pref a Disco.

What sort of insurance prices am I looking at for this?

Would an older Car such as a S3 be a better option, even though they are a lot more to buy?

Thanks.

It would be standard, no mods etc...about 3k miles p/a

This may be no help too you but i thought i would let you no that im 27 now and had my discovery for 2years. When i got my insurance i had no noclaims 3points and only driven for 2years.

I managed to get a quote from sureterm direct £360 for a 300tdi full comp plus other few bits not bad really considering a saxo for me was £900. best thing to do is go on gocompare.com

Thanks, have had a look on go compare, but its not really a fair representation, as its more specialist insurance, i.e 4x4 , or classic.

Just wondering if there any 17 yr olds, or anyone that did it around that age.

Thanks for the replies though!

I insured my disco at 19, 3 months outside my 20th birthday. Went to Adrian Flux, nobody else would touch me mate, paid £1480 fully comp. I had to bide my time with a crappy old escort for 3 years, worth it in the end. I did try NFU, but the guy told me that without farming connections, they didn't want my business.

Just bite the bullet mate, get a cheap runaround, you'll have your disco in no time!

as said go compare waste of time Adrian Flux are good so are sun direct

300tdi 95

On go compare i was quoted £1200 cheapest 23yo 5 points with 1 year NCB but 5 years claim free driving.

rang adrian flux was quoted £614 third party on a classic policy

when i was 19 it cost me £890 to insure a 300 tdi defender valued at 6k in my mums name

£700 in your own name on your own policy??:eek:

Yup, they are cheap as for young drivers, when the vehicle is accepted, mates on a mini for 425!

Thanks, I only have 1.8k to spend on a car, though...

tried looking for quotes recently for my bro in law who is 19/20 but found that defenders and series are much cheaper to insure than discos and engine type had no real effect either.

If you can live with a comfortable top speed of about 55-60 then get a series you can get them for under a grand or less than £500 if you are prepared to work on them.

only question really is you are 17 getting your own car and planning less than 3k miles a year? thats less than 60 miles a week and if you are doing this to keep your premium down be careful cos insurance will do anything they can not to pay out if you need to claim.

I got mine insured 1 month before my 19th birthday, is a 15 year old disco 3.9 v8i

£2300 was my cheapest quote

EDIT: Fully comp, LPG Premium, 10000 miles per annum, 1 year of no claims(conned them out of a free year).

This dude has got a point. I have had mine insured since the 8th feb and have done 5560 miles already and its only a runaround.

The mileage can always be upped afterwards though, i'm not trying to scam the insurance, i'd make sure it was all legit.

To school, there is a coach, so it would be more like a occasional weekend car, and to go on camping trips etc, but yeah, if it went over, i would notify them :)

Thanks for all the help so far :)
