Insuring a Disco @ 17

LOL, I do wonder if we are being fair to this young chap :)

Land rovers are like a drug, you buy one for a multitude of reasons and you get a big grin from ear to ear. Yes you will get burnt to a crisp at the lights and your spend more time under it than in it All this time your getting sucked in to the thing that is called Land Rover Ownership... Then for some reason you decide to buy a car, fast, quiet, comfy and cheap to run too, and that's where it begins.

You don't notice it to start, you start glancing at landys as you pass them in the street as you walk to your car and don't give it a second thought. Then, one day you find the latest copy of LRO on your sofa (this must proof extra terrestrial life is its traveled back in time one whole month!)

This goes on for a few weeks, a month or two before you find a big gaping whole in your bank balance and a pile of rusty Land Rover to start the whole process over again :)

Just be warned, your starting a habit that could be with you a very long time........... I know

Amazing, but true:)

I managed 10 years between the Series 3 and the Disco, but it sure does give you a grin on the face:p

If you are not friendly with oil and spanners, i would never reccommend a Landy to anyone-just not practical. On the other hand if you are the DIY type then the satisfaction of taking her for a spin after youv'e had the engine all over the driveway for a day is immense.

They are definately big boys toys i think;)
 
Quote for a 94 disco on footman james is £1100, that was a quote i got at peterbourgh, i am ringing tommorow to check details, as that seems way too low imo...

Thoughts??
 
im 17 passed about 3 months ben driving defender for all of it 200tdi station wagon 1800 to insure (disco engine) with nfu in my own name love it to bitrs and so do my mates but i do spend alot of time under it but its worth it :)
 
Bloody hell, £1800 is too much for me, not financially viable....

I am friendly with oil and spanners, dads got a defender and a classic which we mess around with ;)
 
well im 17 and my mates 18 and were both on our own policy you just have to have parents with insurance with them of some sort if not then i think you have to be older either 21 or 25 i cant remember lol

i got my disco 2 insured through a sub company of adrian flux called red star cost me £800 fully comp.
Every where else i went to was between £1200 - £4500
 
3rd party insurance for my 300tdi Disco is £600 with Adrian Flux, I'm 22 with 4 year's driving experience and 3 points. Was much cheaper to go with a specialist insurer than any of the crap you will find on go compare etc.

Just spoken to footman james on the disco quote, and it was actually through equity red star too!

This may be a stupid Q, but does anyone know whether the v8 & 200tdi would differ alot in insurance?

300tdi, 200tdi and v8 will depend more on your age than model. recently tried getting a quote for a 20yr old with no ncb and they all came back about the same....


well over £2,000 :eek:
 
i got ym first disco at 18 with 1 years no claims and paid something like 700 quid fully compt through but cant remember who it was with, i saw them advertised in landy mag i think. been with cis ever since and now pay 380 fully comp at 24 yr old on a 200tdi never had a claim or accident since passing test
