So where is good to go for insurance for Landys then? Are there many specialist companies or discounts for owners club or that kind of thing?

Also, what kind of modifications have to be declared?. 2"lift kit? snorkel? winch? Spot lights? Do these kind of modifications tend to increase premiums much?

Try Adrian Flux. They do specialist 4x4 cover and will cover for green laning & off road use, even P&Ps! They were the cheapest for me too.

They will ask if you're a member of any club, say yes. They don't define what constitutes a club even though we know 4x4 clubs as social groups that meet up and participate in 4x4 related events. Technically speaking though, Landyzone alone could be defined as a "club".

If you intend on using your 4x4 for what it's designed for, avoid the main insurance companies. I.e. Direct Line, Co-op, Tescos, Aviva & Sheila's wheels etc etc, as they won't cover you for off roading and any modifications will void your insurance policy unless declared. I wanted to put some new wheels on my car awhile back and Direct Line wouldn't even let me pay extra to do that! They said that if I didn't use standard wheels, my policy would automatically be invalidated! I ended up leaving Direct Line months before my insurance was due for renewal!

A mate of mine knocked a few quid of his insurance by saying he was a member of LZ. Think he used adrian flux.
I got a quote off them and it was the cheapest by £50 but because i'm a young driver they wouldn't give me 3rd party on other vehicles  Stuck with the NFU and for £50 more i can drive dad's v8 90 when my 90s off the road :D

declare everything because if you do claim and an assessor takes a look you'll be in the cacci. lets face it, the mods we do tend to be noticable, unlike stuff like chipping and fancy ICE, even the dullest assessor is going to notice a snorkel/ winch etc.
it will make a hell of a difference to your insurance - and some of the so called specialists aint much cop either - one of the ones that advertise in LRO as a "specialist" land rover insurer asked " do you use it off road?" me being the honest type answered truthfully and they replied " i'm sorry we cant cover you", like eh? WTF...even the age old arguement of " legally the lanes are roads, even if theres no tarmac they are still roads" didnt work, so Im with the AA for £480 including me mods and if it were vanilla I could get it for less than £250.
