Hi guys,

I'm thinking of fitting an asa lift kit to my 06 freelander, is this a do it yourself job? Does alignment need anything done? And has anyone had trouble from insurance for doing it?

Also got some 15" steel wheels, was going to go for Hankook Rf10 At tyres, anyone got any experience of them??

Cheers

Ben

My insurance went up £40 for fitting lift kit, tyres guards etc, told them most of it was for safety in bad weather, more ground clearance and bigger tyres for better grip ;) guards were to stop damage to the vulnerable drive train :D

You'll need front camber bolts, and your tracking re-done, 4 wheel alignment would be preferable for a proper set up to make sure everything is as it should be. I can supply the Bearmach bolts, or you can get the Eibach bolts off eBay from Performance 3000 which quite a few people do. Was going to mail them actually to see if they could do me a deal for a few sets.

Cheers ses88,

Very knowledgable with freelanders as always!

I make the kits, I have to be :D

Ankther one of mycurve balls haha, i know ill prob get frowned at here but fora looks basis could you put slightly higher on the back than the front - to get the a team van look
;-)

Might also me useful to me with having more than the usual weight in the back sand cement etc

Some people do do it, although can make a hash of handling

Would a set of stiffer springs not suit you better if you often carry a heavy load?

Yep looked for some butdidnt find any altho if or when i do lift i think it woild be better if i carry weight as i do for the handling, ive got some assisters in at the min on the back..

I've got modified insurance, and none of the mods on my Hippo have put the insurance up. :)

You can fit the kit yourself, but your need some mechanical knowledge and it takes about 4 1/2 hours. You also need to trim the inner arches and move the fuel lines. I done mine myself but got it laser aligned after. :)

I saw summat a few years since thet said Ford Focus springs and shocks are a straight swap.

Not sure how true it is but bearing in mind LR was owned by Ford when the freelander was produced, it might be reyt...

The thing I seem to remember was that Ford rally car springs/shocks will fit straight onto a freeby...

Not sure how true this is or if my memory is reyt but it might be worth checking up on. :)

Wasn't LR owned by firstly the Rover Group (BL as was) and then BMW for the original Freelander and then by Ford for the Freelander 2?

There were certainly a lot of Fomoco parts the the 2010MY Freelander 2 that I had.

I Think I read the same thing online. Something to do with a rally freelander. The person struggled like hell to find some springs for it, even trying to get bespoke ones but in the end spoke to a knowledgable spring person who sold them some rally ford ones. I think

Focus uses McPherson struts IIRC. Looked into this when I had my V6.Fronts were pretty much a straight swap. Rears are different though.M-Sports used Reiger , mines got Fox .
