I've just arranged some insurance for my 94' tdi defender 90 and was pretty shocked to end up paying £199 through Lancasters. I'm in my 50s have a clean licence and no claims or points. My other car, a Seat Altea only costs £139. So why is the Landrover so expensive?

Because of their rising prices they are currently one of the most desireable/stolen vehicles around. Have a look in the 'stolen' section.

And then if you haven't already done so, get yourself a disclock before you become another statistic.

two years ago when i bought my 3.9 disco i was with direct line i called them up to give all the details of what i bought - they refused to insure me!! I'm over 50 and clean license and 30% NCB. i ended up going with Admiral but still pay £60 per month!
its worth it though....

I'm same age group but 9 years no claims - I had a Jag XK8 with Swiftcover at £360 fully comp inc business use, courtesy car etc, then in Feb last year swapped to a Chrysler 300 5.7 litre Hemi - they refused to insure me!

So went with iBuyeco who charged £420. In Oct last year swapped to a TD4 Freelander, and got a reduction in premium to £360 based on a year. Renewal in Feb this year? They want £478. Swiftcover want £278.

It's a complete shambles. Deffo does not pay to be loyal to any of the fekkers. Shop around is only answer.

You guys dont know how lucky you all are ,try living here in good old inner city ,manchester ! im 47 ,28 years full licence and never a single point yet ,9 years ncb and its still 500 quid on a 2litre diesel 51 plate swb transit van used for my gardening work ,so if you got your insurance for less than 200 quid ,keep quiet and enjoy it or they might put it up !

I do! (M8 manchester)
I have both my Range Rover Classics insured fully comp with Lancaster. One road, and other with off road cover etc. At less than £400 for the pair, it's still less than a third of the premium I use to pay for my old merc Eclass.
For the low mileage I do this helps significantly offset the cost of fuelling the two V8's. (and RRC parts are silly cheap compared to merc too)

Interestingly some insurers put the RRC a premium group lower than disco1's too

pleasure and commuting use is always gonna be way cheaper than business use

M8 ,i know it like the back of my hand ! was in m9 for 20 years but just back in m7 hoping to be back in m9 very shortly ,if that makes any sence ! and yes commercial, business use is dearer but alas you got to have it or else .

True...

If it makes you feel better, the small work van costs about 2 grand to insure a year, but fortunately that doesn't come out of my pocket (well..not directly anyway)

my 90 may be cheap but they get their money out of me on my daily and bike transporter !

a 56 1.9D peugeot partner van with all 75bhp.... nearly 600 quid - with 3 years NCB and no points/incidents !

crazy is - the windowed rear seated version (car) with the 120bhp engine is only 250 a year !

good job i got the van silly cheap compared to the car ones ! !

have found my 110 to be the cheapest insurance so far. about 250 for fully comp business use and 15000 miles a year, im 33 full ncb 3 points, wife is 27 5yr ncb and no points.

P38 was around 550 a year
Disco was around 450 a year

same happend for my bro in law, 21yr old no ncb. Disco was 2500 a year and 90 was 1100 a year (still went and got a fookin saxo tho). tis strange how the most stolen landy is the cheapest to insure.

I have to be on my dads insurance for the landy because it's ridiculously expensive... He is over 50 and a solicitor about 10 years ncb or more and no accidents etc

Still costs 900 quid.. not like we live in the middle of a city either...
