Hello I’m close to buying a Range Rover sport 2016 3.0 diesel but….the insurance through normal search engines is crazy. My current car - similar insurance group - is more than 3 times less than the sport. I live in a rural location and insurance is not expensive but this is coming as a shock (I can insure a supercar for less). Is this becoming the norm and are there any other insurance companies? Tried nfu but they are more expensive than most companies on search engines

Alas they can be nicked within 30 x seconds due to the keyless entry system so are indeed high risk for insurers

To help reduce premiums many will get a ghost alarm system fitted + a tracker , disable keyless entry and either move or fit a CANBUS lock , others things are fitting a dummy OBD2 socket

On the keyless entry D4’s know that JLR done software updates in order to reduce the ease of how keys can be programmed , however in doing so owners may have to buy a completely new key module , so 2 x new keys can cost £1500

Just did a quote (although I have no intention of buying one). My P38 is £297 this year. 2016 RR Sport quotes start at £1296 which is crazy.

That's with 13 years NCB & 43 years of driving !!

Just run a quote search. L322 this year £157 fully comp with Aviva. RRS 2016 basic model, £253, from Swift.
20yrs+ NCB and eek how many?!! yearrs driving.
Insurance is weird.

Well, after selling my L322, I decided to cancel the insurance, expecting the usual £60 or whatever for a couple of keystrokes on a computer. I was gobsmacked when they said they could not find my vehicle or policy on their system. This was a shock, if I had made a claim, where would that leave me, in the sh*t probably. Darwin was the said insurer, the premium was £500. After various emails, I was getting nowhere. I have given all the details to the Financial Ombudsman to sort. Just be aware of this company.
