Hello guys,

First time posting (if we do not count the introduction thread). I am about to install new 7inch touchscreen radio with navigation (to replace the stock 2din radio), and I'm wondering about what is the best way to route the antenna for GPS. I was thinking to remove the clock, drill a hole above it and then run a cable there but don't know if i need to remove any more plastics.

Did anyone do any similar work to this one? I tried to find some youtube videos on how to remove interior plastics, I'm not afraid to do that but can't seem to find anything. And search is acting up on this forum, it fails every time, even if i use known keywords :(

I would really like some help on this one.

Car specs:
Freelander 1, 2004 TD4.

Thanks in advance !

Does it have a heated front screen? Sometimes that will upset the GPS antenna, although that depends on the quality of the antenna being used.

You could always run the GPS cable up the windscreen pillar to the factory combination GPS / FM antenna which was fitted the Freelander HSE. ;)

Doesn't have a heated front screen. Other than the regular vent of course :)

I don't believe the cable is that long enough, but i will see that once the package arrives, hopefully in 15-20 days. Problem is i still don't know what everything i need to disassemble so i can run the cable to behind the radio, where it plugs in. What would i need to tear apart other than the central console? Might be a bit dumb question but this will be the first time i try something like this :)

You'll need to remove the complete console, as the double DIN unit is trapped behind it. You'll need to buy a double DIN converter too as the FL1 double DIN unit is larger than a standard DD unit. You'll need a wiring adapter as again the FL1 uses a non standard wiring harness.

Generally GPS antenna wiring is long enough to reach the roof, unless the unit is one of the cheap n nasty Chinese HUs that EBay is full of at the moment.

I know about the console. I've seen how to remove the central console, watched the youtube video, seems like an easy step.
But... Damn... Didn't know about the double din converter.. I see i am receiving some brackets with the radio.. Hoping it will work but if it doesn't, I'll get one off the scrapyard or something :)

As for the wiring harness, i was hoping it has a standard ISO jack.. But i will have adapters as well, but seems that i will have to re-wire them :) Here is a picture in the attachment what i have ordered. It is from aliexpress, typical Chinese but it'll work ! I'm an optimist ! :) Just have to wait 7-15 days for delivery ! Can't wait ! And when it comes - I'm diving in to set it up ! Anyone had any experience with re-wiring these?

Found it ! This morning i came back from work, started dismantling the central console just so i can see what's waiting for me when new stereo comes. This is my jack:

I gotta say, it was difficult for me to find the proper adapter, but after searching for 24pin to iso connectors, found it!

Just didn't know it was labeled for Ford and Land Rover Freelander 2005 and up. Thought that mine was using a bit older, 2004 connectors that are tad different. But cool either way. Also bought the antenna adapter:

So now all i have to wait is for stereo to arrive. And then I'll figure out how to mount it and where to place GPS antenna and how to route the cable for it :)
